Our prediction for this Segunda Division match:
There will be fireworks when Ponferradina and Girona face each other at Estadio El Toralin in what is expected to be a close La Liga 2 encounter. La Ponfe are eyeing their third consecutive league win and their third clean sheet in a row as well. The hosts have been impressive at the back at the start of the season, and they are likely to rely on their rock-solid defence in Saturday’s football game.
Defender Alexandru Pascanu is banned for the hosts, with Agus Medina likely to step up. The Catalan outfit, on the other hand, are after their third clean sheet of the process as well, and, taking everyting into account, a low-scoring affair is on the cards at Estadio El Toralin. Veteran attacker Stuani should continue to lead the line for the visitors despite failing to find the net in the goalless draw with Las Palmas at the weekend.
Highlighted Player (Curro Sanchez):
Curro Sanchez is a Spanish footballer who plays for Ponferradina in Segunda Division. Born in La Palma del Condado on January 3, 1996, Sanchez began his youth career at Siempre Alegres, but in 2007 he was spotted by Sevilla scouts.
Curro Sanchez did not hesitate at all, signing a contract with the famous La Liga side. To make things even better for the Andalusian, he made his senior debut with Sevilla in La liga on May 4, 2016 in a 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna. Curro Sanchez then joined Numancia, where he scored 13 goals in 34 appearances in Segunda Division for los Numantinos.
In 2020 he signed a deal with La Liga 2 side Ponferradina. Sanchez made his la Ponfe debut in a 2-0 win over Albacete on September 20, 2020. Even though right winger is his primary position, Curro Sanchez is capable of producing fine performances as an attacking midfielder as well.
Highlighted Team (Girona):
After several unsuccessful attempts, finally secured promotion to Primera Division at the end of the 2016/2017 season. The Catalan outfit finished the campaign in second place in the standings, 14 points behind Levante and only two clear of third-placed Getafe. Girona play their home games at Montilivi and the capacity of the venue is 9.286.
Speaking of the club history, Girona were founded in the café Norat in La Rambla of Girona on July 23, 1930 and they played their first official game against Colonia Artigas. A number of Spanish coaches were in charge of the team in the past, but it has to be noted that Uruguayan tactician Dagoberto Moll (1965/1966) and Karoly Plattko (1948/1949) of Hungary were in charge of the club as well.
The Catalan team wear white shirts with red stripes when playing at home, while the colour of their shorts is blue. The team’s away kits are blue and black and Sporting Gijon are considered one of Girona’s fiercest rivals.
