Our prediction for this Segunda Division match:
There will be fireworks when Real Valladolid and Elche go head to head in the Segunda Division derby on Sunday evening. La Pucela are on a three-game losing run in the Spanish second tier, with the team obviously struggling in front of goal. Head coach Paulo Pezzolano is under big pressure ahead of the visit of Elche, but this game could be the turning point for the home team. Javi Sanchez remains in the recovery room, but there are no fresh injury worries in the home team.
Los Franjiverdes, on the other hand, head into Sunday’s clash following a 1-1 draw with Racing Santander. Elche are not regarded as good travellers, but given Valladolid’s poor form, we predict that the sides are going to share the spoils on Matchday 5. Cristian Salvador has joined the likes of Alex Martin and John Donald Chetauya in the treatment room, while Carlos Clerc misses out through suspension.
Highlighted Player (Jordi Masip):
Jordi Masip is yet another La Masia product. Masip began his youth career at Mercantil, but in 2004 he joined the famous Barcelona football academy. The 180-cm-tall goalkeeper was struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular in Barcelona at senior level, but he played for Barca B in Segunda Division from 2008 to 2014.
After making 79 appearances for Barcelona B, Jordi Masip finally made his senior debut for the Catalan giants on December 16, 2014 in a 8-1 win over Huesca. The two teams faced in Copa del Rey and it has to be noted that Masip made his La liga debut for Barca in a 2-2 draw with Deportivo La Coruna in May, 2014.
In 2017 the Spanish shot-stopper born in Sabadell signed a three-year deal with Real Valladolid. Masip quickly established himself as a first-team regular at La Pucela and you should know that he managed to keep 11 clean sheets in 42 appearances for the club in the 2017/2018 Segunda Division campaign.
Highlighted Team (Elche):
Established in 1923, Elche is a Spanish club that competes in La Liga. Los Franjiverdes welcome their rivals at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, the stadium which can hold up to 33,732 spectators. The venue was opened on September 8, 1976.
Elche wear white shirts with green stripe and white shorts when playing at home, while black is the dominant colour of their away jersey. The club’s biggest success came in 1969 as Elche made it to the Copa del rey final. Los Franjiverdes faced Club Atletico de Bilbao in the Spanish Cup final, with the Basques winning the match by one goal to nil.
The likes of Mario Pasalic, Ivan Bolado, Garry Rodrigues, Goran Djorovic, Albert Nadj, Wakaso, Moha, Carlos Sanchez, Ioan Andone, Enzo Roco, Dominique Malonga, Richmond Boakye, and Sory Kaba are some of the notable players who were part of the team in the past. Elche have never represented Spain in European competitions.
