Our prediction for this Serie A match:
Stadio Olimpico will host an eagerly-awaited Serie A game between Lazio and Napoli, the two top-table sides. The Biancocelesti are on a four-game winning run in the national championship, but they head into Sunday’s clash following the Super Cup loss (0-3) to Inter. Luis Alberto is widely expected to return to the starting XI, while both Ciro Immobile and Mattia Zaccagni are banned for the match. In Immobile’s absence, Pedro is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts.
The Partenopei, on the other hand, suffered a heart-breaking loss to Inter in the Super Cup final, with Lautaro Martinez scoring the winner in the stoppage time. As Walter Mazzarri is still without key attacker Victor Osimhen (international duty), we are tempted to put our money on the capital club this time out. Zambo Anguissa is on international duty as well, while important winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is sidelined through suspension. Midfielder Jens Cajuste is banned for the match as well, while both Alex Meret and Natan Souza miss out with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Giovanni Simeone):
Giovanni Simeone is a product of River Plate football academy. Simeone played for los Millonarios at senior level from 2014 to 2016 and he moved to Genoa in the summer of 2016. The former River Plate man scored his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Pescara on September 25, 2016 and two months later he scored a brace in a 3-1 victory over Serie A giants Juventus.
The prolific attacker netted 12 goals in 35 matches for the Rossoblu in the 2016/2017 Serie A campaign and, as a result, Fiorentina chiefs decided to sign him at the end of the season. The son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego joined the Viola on a five-year contract. Giovanni was born in Madrid on July 5, 1995 and due to his dual citizenship, he is eligible to represent both Argentina and Spain at senior level.
It has to be noted that he scored 12 goals in 12 appearances for the Argentina U20 team and he helped La Albiceleste win the 2015 South American Youth Football Championship.
Highlighted Team (Lazio):
Lazio Roma are an Italian football club based in Rome. Lazio were founded in 1900 and they compete in the Serie A. The Biancocelesti (The White and Sky Blues) have won two Serie A trophies (1973/1974, 1999/2000), while lifting six Coppa Italia titles.
The capital club play their home games at Stadio Olimpico and Roma are regarded as Lazio’s main rivals.
The two teams face each other in the Derby della Capitale and it is considered the fiercest inter-city derby in Italy. Lazio won UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999, with the team beating Mallorca in the title game. The same year they managed to clinch the UEFA Super Cup trophy as they outplayed English giants Manchester United at Stade Louis II, Monaco.
The likes of Pavel Nedved, Giuseppe Favalli, Juan Sebastian Veron, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Roberto Mancini, Giuseppe Signori, Miroslav Klose and Simone Inzaghi are notable footballers who played for Lazio in the past.
