Our prediction for this Spanish Super Cup match:
Estadio La Rosaleda will host the Spanish Super Cup semifinal between Real Madrid and Athletic Club. Real Madrid failed to beat Osasuna on a frozen pitch, with the capital club facing difficulties on their return to Madrid as well. Los Blancos are eager to return to winning ways, and we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at Athletic Club in Thursday’s showdown. The likes of Jovic and Rodrygo remain in the recovery room, but the good news for Zinedine Zidane is that right-back Dani Carvajal returns from suspension.
Midfielder Isco is pushing for a start, as well as left-back Marcelo. The Lions, on the other hand, were not in action at the weekend as their clash against Atletico Madrid was postponed. The Basques did well to make it to the Copa del Rey final last term, but we do not believe that they are capable of beating Real Madrid in the Super Cup semis as los Blancos are desperate to get back on course. Both Yeray and Yuri are rated doubtful for the Estadio La Rosaleda clash.
Highlighted Player (Luka Modric):
Luka Modric is regarded as one of the best central midfielders in world football. The Croatian ace is a product of Dinamo Zagreb’s youth school and it has to be noted that he played 94 league games for the Modri between 2003 and 2008. In 2008 he signed a six-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £16.5 million.
Luka made his Tottenham debut on 16 August, 2008 in a 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium. The Croatian star scored only 13 goals in 127 league appearances for the Spurs, but he is well known for his brilliant passing. In 2012 he signed for Real Madrid for a fee of £30 million and he made his debut against Barcelona in the 2012 Spanish Super Cup, return leg.
Modric quickly established himself as a first-team regular and, no doubt, he helped the capital club win two Champions League trophies (2013/2014, 2015/2016). You should bear in mind that he was named Croatian Footballer of the Year in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2014.
Highlighted Team (Athletic Bilbao):
Athletic Club (mostly known as Athletic de Bilbao) is a Spanish football club from the Bask region which is playing currently in the Primera Division. The club from Bilbao is playing in the highest Spanish division since its founded in 1928 and is next to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona for a longest period of time in the Primera Division. Athletic de Bilbao used to play until 2012 in the San Mames stadium (also known as La Catedral).
Since 2013 the club is playing in anew stadium. Athletic Bilbao is known for its rivalry with Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid was founded by Bask students in Madrid. The old relationship between both teams is visible in the red blue jerseys of both teams.
The second team Athletic de Bilbao is playing in the Segunda Division B in Spain. Athletic Bilbao won the Primera Division 8 times, the Copa del Rey 24 times, the Spanish super cup 2 times. Athletic de Bilbao didn’t won any prizes in Europe yet but managed to be the runner up in 1977 and 2012 in the UEFA cup.
