Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Ecuador will be aiming to make amends for a 1-0 loss to Argentina when they take on Uruguay in their first home game in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Ecuador’s display against La Albiceleste was anything but poor and, no doubt, they are capable of matching the Uruguayans on home soil. As always, a man to watch in the home team will be experienced striker Enner Valencia, who has netted 40 goals for the national team to date.
La Celeste, meanwhile, made a flying start to their WC qualifying campaign, with the team beating Chile 3-1 in front of home fans. In Luis Suarez’s absence, Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez will lead the line for the visiting side. Anyhow, the share of spoils is on the horizon as Ecuador are tough to beat at home. All Valverde, Ugarte, Vina, and Caceres should be cautious as they got booked in the opener.
Highlighted Player (Enner Valencia):
Enner Valencia is a prolific 26-year-old striker who plays for West Ham United in the English Premier League. Nicknamed “Superman”, Valencia started his career with Emelec in 2010. He enjoyed league success with Emelec and was awarded the “Copa Sudamericana Golden Boot” in 2013.
He also played for Pachuca in Mexico winning the Liga MX Golden Boot in 2014. His goal-scoring record and pace caught the attention of West Ham which bought him for an estimated £12 million in July 2014. At international level, Valencia made his debut in 2012 and has represented the country in 24 games so far. He is one of Ecuador’s top ten goal scorers of all time with 14 goals.
He has already represented Ecuador at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 Copa America tournaments. Enner Valencia is Ecuador’s joint top scorer – along with Agustin Delgado – in World Cup tournaments with three goals.
Highlighted Team (Uruguay):
La Celeste are one of the most successful South American nations. Uruguay are frequently the champions of the continent having most recently won the tournament in 2011. They have won the Copa America a record 15 times including the first ever edition of the competition in 1916, while the team has also won FIFA World Cup in two occasions including the inaugural competition in 1930 when they defeated Argentina 4-2 in the final as hosts.
Their second World Cup title came in 1950 when Uruguay and Brazil played a legendary match which recorded a higher attendance than any other football match in the history of the game. Uruguay is the smallest country in the world to have won a World Cup by population, but La Celeste are proud of their football heritage which yielded some of the best footballers in the world over the course of history.
Most notable player of the current selection is Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, who is also the team’s top scorer with 45 goals to his name.
