Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
All eyes will be on Estadio Centenario Ciudad de Quilmes when Uruguay and Chile lock horns in a highly-anticipated 2026 World Cup qualifier. La Celeste are eyeing their fourth consecutive win after impressing in March and June friendlies, but they will have to showcase their worth on the field. All Luis Suarez, Edison Cavani, and Fernando Muslera have been left out of the squad, while Diego Godin retired from international football.
La Roja, on the other hand, played out a slim goalless draw with Bolivia in their last warm-up game. Bruno Barticciotto misses out with injury, while legendary forward Alexis Sanchez made the cut. Anyhow, home win should be considered as Uruguay are a real force to be reckoned with at home. In their last meeting in Montevideo Uruguay defeated Chile 2-1 and we predict that history is going to repeat itself.
Highlighted Player (Martin Caceres):
Martin Caceres is a widely travelled and well known Uruguayan professional footballer who plays for Juventus. Primarily a central defender, Caceres is known for his tenacity, pace, strength, tackling and aerial ability. He is versatile and can operate as full-back on either sides too. Caceres started his career at Defensor Sporting and became a regular at a very young age.
In 2007, he went to Spanish side Villarreal but never officially appeared for them. He then was snapped up by Barcelona in 2008 for a reported transfer fee of € 16.5 million. But his only season at the Camp Nou was marred with injuries and moved to Juventus in 2012 via a short stop at Sevilla.
Caceres made his full senior team debut in 2007 and was a successful member of the team that won the 2011 Copa America. He also played at the 2014 World Cup and has 68 national caps to his credit.
Highlighted Team (Chile):
The Chilean Football Federation has been established in 1895 while Chile’s first-ever international game was a 3-1 loss to Argentina in 1910. The two countries formed a remarkable rivalry over the years and it was exactly against Argentina that Chile won their last major trophy – a 2015 Copa America title.
Prior to their 2015 title Chile had been runners-up in the competition on four different occasions. Chile triumphed in a dramatic final on penalty kicks to reach their first tournament championship. In a symbolic turn of events, Chile start their 2016 Copa America Centenario with a rematch against Argentina. The most capped player of the Chile national team is Barcelona goalkeeper who has past his 100-match mark with the squad he has been a part of since 2004.
Former Lazio and Juventus striker, the legendary Marcelo Salas is the leading scorer with 37 goals to his name. Key player to the current set up is Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez who has been the team’s leader on the pitch since 2006.
