Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Mozambique and Cameroon go head to head in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers for the second time in just four days. Mozambique are hungry for revenge, but the bookies see them as big underdogs in Monday’s football match. The hosts have slim chances of securing qualification for the next year’s showpiece tournament, and they are unlikely to upset the Indomitable Lions.
Bayern Munchen attacker Choupo-Moting, who scored a brace in the last group game, is likely to make life difficult for the opposition defenders. Cameroon aim to overtake Ivory Coast in top position, and we are positive that they will prove their worth on the field. You should bear in mind that Cameroon emerged triumphant in each of the previous three meetings with Mozambique in all competitions. Both Ekambi and Aboubakar should be deployed up front in the 3-5-2 formation, with Fai and Kunde pushing for a start. Defender Danilo Muze is banned for the visitors.
Highlighted Player (Mexer):
Edson Andre Sitoe “Mexer”, who was born in Maputo, Mozambique on September 8, 1988, began his senior career at Desportivo Maputo and he scored three goals in 97 appearances for the club. Mexer played for his home-town club from 2006 to 2010 and in the winter of 2010 he joined Portuguese side Sporting for a fee of €173,000.
The Mozambique centre-back was quickly loaned to Olhanense and it has to be noted that he made 39 appearances for the Primeira Liga club in the league. In 2012 he was sold to fellow Portuguese outfit Nacional and after playing 57 league games for the club, Mexer moved to France. The 187-cm-tall footballer signed a contract with Rennes in January, 2014 and he has been playing for les Rouges et Noirs ever since.
Mexer made his debut for Mozambique national team in 2007 and he represented Os Mambas at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored his first goal for Mozambique in a 5-0 win over South Sudan in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Highlighted Team (Cameroon):
Cameroon are an African team that played their first ever game against Belgian Congo back in 1956. The Indomitable Lions made 7 appearances at the World Cup finals and they recorded their best result at the major tournament in 1990. Cameroon made it to the 1990 World Cup quarter-finals by beating Colombia in the last 16, but England proved to be a big catch for the African team.
Speaking of African Cup of Nations, Cameroon clinched their fourth CAN trophy in 2002, when they defeated Senegal in the title game. A number of world-class footballers played for the Indomitable Lions in the past and the likes of Samuel Eto’o, Rigobert Song, Roger Milla, Patrick M’Boma, Stephane Mbia and Geremi are the most notable players who were part of the Cameroonian national football team.
