Our prediction for this Bundesliga match:
All eyes will be on Olympiastadion when Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munchen, the two old rivals, face each other in the Bundesliga round 20. The capital club aim to escape the danger zone, but they will have a mountain to climb in Sunday’s showdown. Both Serdar and Boateng return from suspension, while Pekarik, Christensen, and Bjorkan have been tested positive for coronavirus. The title holders, on the other hand, proved their worth in a 4-0 crushing of Koln at the weekend.
Bayern aim to get their job done in the Bundesliga as soon as possible, and given their four-game winning run in encounters with Hertha Berlin, anything but a routine away win would be a major surprise. A man to watch in the away team will be Robert Lewandowski, who scored a hat-trick at the weekend, while both Lucas Hernandez and Kingsley Coman are quarantined. Alphonso Davies is out of contention through heart problems, while Eric Choupo-Moting is on international duty.
Highlighted Player (Alexander Schwolow):
One of the key cogs in Freiburg’s push for Bundesliga survival in 2017/18, Alexander Schwolow remains remembered for his impressive displays against some of league’s biggest sides which proved decisive in his team’s relegation battle.
A product of Freiburg academy, Alexander Schwolow was forced to work for his place under the spotlight and it wasn’t until his loan spell in the Third Division with Armenia Bielefeld in 2014 that Schwolow earned his place between the sticks at his parent club. His stock went through a rapid rise in 2016/17 campaign when Alexander Schwolow played a great part in his team’s seventh-place finish and a place in the UEFA Europa league qualification.
Schwolow’s impressive goalkeeping exploits got his name written in the notebook of some of Europe’s biggest clubs and it is fair to say we could see his move abroad in foreseeable future. Alexander Schwolow represented Germany in U18, U19 and U20 categories but has yet to earn a senior cap.
Highlighted Team (Bayern Munich):
Over the years Bayern Munich have established themselves as one of the most successful European clubs. The Stern des Sudens (Star of the South) are the dominant force in German football and it has to be noted that the Bavarians clinched their 26th Bundesliga title in 2016. Bayern Munich have won 18 German Cup trophies, while winning the Champions League (European Cup) five times.
The German giants clinched the Intercontinental Cup in 1976 and 2001, while lifting the FIFA Club World Cup trophy in 2013. Bayern Munich was founded in 1900 by eleven football players and their leader was Franz John. The Bavarians host their rivals at Allianz Arena (75,000), the stadium that was built in 2005.
Fellow Bavarian sides TSV 1860 Munchen 1860 and Nurnberg are regarded as Bayern Munich’s fiercest rivals, but the rivalry between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern is big as well. The likes of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Franz Beckenbauer, Lothar Matthaus, Oliver Kahn, Gerd Muller and Giovane Elber are famous footballers who played for Bayern Munich in the past.
