Our prediction for this Nations League match:
Italy will be aiming to climb to top position in Group 3 when they take on Hungary at Stadio Dino Manuzzi. The Azzurri produced a fine display in a 1-1 draw with Germany, and it is no wonder the bookies see them as favourites to beat Hungary in front of home fans. Lazio striker Ciro Immobile has been ruled out with injury, and, in his absence, Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca is widely expected to lead the line for the home side.
The Hungarians, on the other hand, did remarkably well to shock star-studded England in their Nations League opener, with Dominik Szaboszlai sealing the victory from the penalty spot. Marco Rossi’s men, though, will have a much bigger fish to fry against Italy, who are a real force to be reckoned with at home. Rossi is unlikely to make changes to the team that defeated the Three Lions.
Highlighted Player (Marco Verratti):
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti is the creative force of the French champions and a world-class professional even though he is only 23. Deemed one of the most talented Italian players of the new generation, Marco Verratti began his career in Pescara, his home town club, from which he was directly transferred to PSG much to surprise of the general football community.
Technically gifted playmaker was snapped by Les Parisiens in 2012 in front of Napoli, Roma and Juventus in a five-year deal worth €12 million. Marco Verratti has since gone to become a key member for the French champions already surpassing the 100-game mark for PSG.
The 23-year-old playmaker is a player of great vision and awareness, very calm and composed on the ball. His passing skills are impressive often compared to Italian legend Andrea Pirlo’s. Despite his diminutive figure Marco Verratti is not afraid to get in duels and participate in defence duties which make him an all-rounder and great influence in every segment of the play.
Highlighted Team (Hungary):
Widely known as the Mighty Magyars during the 1950’s, Hungary national team had the world at its feet as the team featuring Ferenc Puskas, Sandor Kocsis and Zoltan Czibor reached the final of the 1954 World Cup, while recording several impressive wins over England and other top sides in international friendlies.
Hungary also made it to the semi-final at the Euro 1964 and Euro 1972, but they have since largely struggled to return to old glory days. The barren run finally came to an end as Foci defeated Norway in the play-off to qualify for the Euro 2016 finals, but there still appears to be a huge gap behind the top European sides.
Long-serving goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly has managed to break a 58-year record held by Jozsef Bozsik, having surpassed the 101-cap mark, but Ferenc Puskas still remains the top goalscorer in the history of the national team with an unbelievable record of 84 goals in 85 caps, followed by Sandor Kocsis, who has 75 goals in 68 appearances.
