After upsetting Bayer Leverkusen at BayArena, Augsburg will look to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they face Mainz at their WWK Arena on Saturday. The Bavarians were more than fortunate to beat Leverkusen, with goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz making no fewer than ten saves in the match, but the team looked dangerous on the break. Keep in mind that Augsburg’s injury list is pretty long, including Sarenren-Bazee, Strobl, Oxford, Salifou, Iago, and Rexhbecaj, to name just a few.
Die Nullfunfer, on the other hand, kicked off the new domestic campaign with a 2-1 win at Bochum, with the team sharing the spoils with Union Berlin at the weekend. Mainz are more of a team than Augsburg, and seeing that the Bavarians let Bayer Leverkusen create a number of clear-cut chances to score at the weekend, we are going to put our money on the visitors. Defender Danny da Costa is sidelined with injury, while forward Jonathan Burkardt is a major doubt.

The return of 12 goals in 17 league outings for the Swedish giants soon secured him a move to Heerenveen, where he would go on to play the best football of his career, scoring remarkable 53 goals in 65 Eredivisie matches. Finnbogason somewhat struggled during spells with Real Sociedad and Olympiakos, but managed to kick-start his career at Augsburg, just in time to help Iceland on their first ever European championship appearance.
The prolific striker has been a member of the country’s national team since 2010, making over 30 appearances and scoring quite a few goals despite the fact that he was not always considered a first team regular.
