Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Sheffield Wednesday welcome Port Vale to their Hillsborough in the League One round 24. The Owls aim to finish 2022 in style, and we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at the Valiants. Lee Gregory limped off with injury in the Boxing Day win over Fleetwood, with fellow attacker Callum Paterson likely to step up. There are no other fresh selection worries in the home team.
The visitors, on the other hand, recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Morecambe on Monday, with the team moving closer to the playoffs berth. Port Vale, though, have been anything but impressive on the road this season, which is probably the main reason why home triumph should be considered. As for the away team, fit-again midfielder Funso Ojo is pushing for a recall after overcoming his injury.
Highlighted Player (Reece James):
Reece James is a talented Chelsea defender who plays for Wigan Athletic on loan. Born in Redbridge, England on December 8, 1999, James started his youth career at Chelsea football academy at the age of 6. The talented teenager played for England U18 and U19 teams and he currently represents the U20 team on the international stage.
Reece James scored 3 goals in 45 appearances for Wigan in the 2018/2019 Championship campaign, but that did not help the Latics avoid relegation to the League One. His numbers from the 2018/2019 season are impressive as he completed 91 successful tackles, 54 blocks, 44 successful dribbles and 93 clearances.
James, on the other hand, has yet to find the net for the England U20 national team. His main position is right back, but he is capable of playing as both centre-back and defensive midfielder as well. Reece James turned professional in March 2017.
Highlighted Team (Port Vale):
Nicknamed the Valiants, Port Vale are a professional club that compete in the League Two. Port Vale welcome their rivals at Vale Park, and they wear white and black kit when playing in front of home fans. Yellow, on the other hand, is the dominant colour of their away kit.
The Valiants’ home ground, which was built in 1950, can hold up to 49,768 people. Championship side Stoke City are seen as one of the club’s fiercest rivals, but their rivalry is pretty healthy. The two teams first met on December 2, 1882, with the Potters emerging triumphant (1-0).
The Valiants maintain a rivalry with fellow League 2 club Crewe Alexandra as well. Speaking of the club’s titles, it has to be noted that Port Vale have won Football League Trophy on two occasions (1993, 2001). A 9-1 win over Chesterfield from September 24, 1932 is the club’s biggest triumph.
