Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Elche and Espanyol take on each other at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero in a highly-anticipated relegation six-pointer. Los Franjiverdes proved their worth in a 3-1 win over Villarreal, but despite the triumph, they are still stuck at the bottom of the table with only nine points on their account. The rock-bottom side aim to give fans yet another reason for celebration, and we are positive that they will leave their hearts on the field.
The opposition back-line should have Pere Milla at bay as the 30-year-old forward scored a hat-trick against the Yellow Submarine, while both Helibelton Palacios and Omar Mascarell are back from suspensions. Los Periquitos, on the other hand, aim to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to Real Sociedad, and seeing that they will go for a win as well, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. Espanyol defender Leandro Cabrera is banned for the match.
Highlighted Player (Enzo Roco):
Enzo Roco is one of the young and exciting defenders coming out of Chile in the recent times. The 23-year-old started in the youth teams at Universidad Catolica and moved up the ranks. He was promoted to their first team in 2011 and in three years with them played more than 90 matches.
He established himself in the first team and was an omnipresent figure at the back for the team that won Primera Division and Copa Chile titles. Roco moved to the Spanish club Elche on loan in 2014 and by the next year he was at their fellow Spanish club RCD Espanyol.
Roco’s international appearance started with the under-17 squad in 2009 while his senior international debut was in 2012. He was named in the 30-man list by Jorge Sampaoli for the 2014 FIFA World Cup but was cut from the final list.
Highlighted Team (Espanyol):
Espanyol are a Catalan club that plays in Spanish La Liga. Espanyol were founded in 1900 and their original name was Sociedad Espanola de Football. In 1901 the Catalan club changed its name to Club Espanol de Futbol. Los Periquitos used to play in bright yellow shirts in the past, but current colour of the team’s home kit is blue and white.
Espanyol’s fiercest rivals are Barcelona and the two teams face each other in the Catalan derby (Derbi barceloni). Espanyol have always been in Barca’s shadow, but it has to be noted that los Periquitos have won four Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup trophies).
The likes of Raul Tamudo, Jose Maria, Antonio Argiles and Mauricio Pochettino are players with most appearances for the Catalan outfit. Espanyol play their home games at Estadio Cornella-El Prat and the capacity of the stadium is 40,500. Los Periquitos have never participated in the Champions League.
