Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Cambridge United and Portsmouth go head to head at Abbey Stadium in what is expected to be one of the most interesting games of Saturday’s program. The U’s are desperate to escape the relegation zone, and we are positive that they will adopt an attack-minded approach against Portsmouth. Mamadou Jobe continues to miss out with injury, but there are no fresh selection worries in the home team.
The Pompey, meanwhile, proved their worth in a 3-1 win over Bolton, but they need to keep on improving their game if they are to rejoin the playoffs race. January signing Ryley Towler should keep his place in the starting XI after scoring a brace in the midweek triumph, but top scorer Colby Bishop will be the man to watch in the away team. Anyhow, away win should be considered as Portsmouth are desperate to move closer to the playoffs places.
Highlighted Player (Liam O’Neil):
Born in Cambridge, England on July 31, 1993, Liam O’Neil is an English footballer who plays as both defender as midfielder for Cambridge United in the League Two. O’Neil is a product of the Cambridge United football school, but he played for Histon during his youth career as well.
In the summer of 2012 he joined WBA youth academy, and it has to be noted that he made three appearances for the Baggies at senior level in all competitions. Liam O’Neil played for the likes of VPS and Scunthorpe United on loan as well before joining Chesterfield in 2015.
After scoring two goals in 45 appearances for the club in the league, O’Neil moved to Cambridge United in the winter of 2017. As his mother comes from Wales, O’Neil is open to play for the Wales national team, but he has yet to earn a cap with the Dragons.
Highlighted Team (Portsmouth):
During Milan Mandaric’s era at the club, Portsmouth played an important role in the Premier League, with the team finishing their debut season (2003/2004) in the 13th position in the standings. The club impressed in the 2008/2009 season, with Nwankwo Kanu’s goal helping them beat Cardiff City in the FA Cup final.
As a result, Portsmouth represented England in the Europa League, with the team progressing in the group stages of the competition thanks to a win over Vitoria Gimaraes in the final qualifying round. The current club was formed in 2013, but the original amateur club was founded back in 1883. Nowadays Portsmouth host their rivals at Fratton Park, with the venue holding up to 20,620 spectators.
The likes of Sol Campbell, David James, Glen Johnson and aforementioned Nigeria international Nwankwo Kanu are considered one of the club’s most notable players. Portsmouth wear blue shirts, white shorts and red socks when hosting their rivals at Fratton Park, while wearing white and blue colours when playing on the road.
