Our prediction for this Champions League match:
There will be fireworks when Real Madrid and Chelsea square off against each other in the Champions League quarter-finals, first leg. Los Blancos are on a quest to defend their trophy, and the bookies see them as hot favourites to beat the out-of-form Blues at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Luka Modric is widely expected to return to the starting XI after the 37-year-old was rested in a 3-2 loss to Villarreal, with Brazil defender Eder Militao pushing for a start as well. Ferland Mendy should be the only absentee in the home team.
The Premier League outfit, on the other hand, failed to find the net in the previous three league fixtures, and given their poor display in a 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Carlo Ancelotti’s troops. All Madueke, Aubameyang and Badiashile are ineligible to face Real Madrid, while Thiago Silva is out of contention through injury. Mason Mount is a major doubt.
Highlighted Player (Karim Benzema):
Striker Karim Benzema came through his youth club Bron Terraillon in Olympique Lyon were he went through all the youth teams.
On January 15, 2005 Benzema made his debut for the first team of Lyon that season but did not have much playing time. In the 2007-2008 season he was indeed a permanent fixture in the team and he got his break . He grew that season right into a crowd favorite and clubs like Arsenal, Juventus, Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan showed interest in him.
Benzema in 2008 (like 2005, 2006, and 2007) was in the champions with Olympique Lyon and had no interest in leaving France. In 2008, Karim was named best French footballer.
Highlighted Team (Chelsea):
Over the years Chelsea have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in the English Premier League. Roberto Di Matteo helped the team win their first ever Champions League trophy (2011/2012), but it has to be noted that they were more than fortunate to beat Bayern Munich in the title game.
Chelsea have been playing at Stamford Bridge since 1876 and they are a real force to be reckoned with at home. The Blues have won seven FA Cups, five League Cups, two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups and the UEFA Europa League. Rafael Benitez was in charge of the team that faced Benfica in the 2012/2013 Europa League final, with Branislav Ivanovic scoring the winner for the Blues in the title clash.
After lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, the Blues largely struggled in the next campaign, which saw Jose Mourinho’s second spell with the club come to an end, and Antoine Conte went over to take the reigns for the 2016/2017 season.
