Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Real Sociedad will be aiming to build on back-to-back wins over Osasuna and Real Madrid when they take on Girona on Saturday. The Basques are on the right track to book their place in the Champions League and a win over Girona will see them move one step closer to meeting the goal. Ander Barrenetxea should be recalled to the starting XI after sealing the victory against Carlo Ancelotti’s troops, while all Igor Zubeldia, Umar Sadiq, and Martin Merquelanz remain in the recovery room.
The Catalans, on the other hand, are on a three-game winning run, but given their modest away record (3-5-8), we predict that the hosts are going to emerge triumphant in Saturday’s encounter. As for the away side, all Aleix Garcia, Borja Garcia, Toni Villa, Yangel Herrera, and Ibrahima Kebe are out of contention through injuries. In the first half of the season Real Sociedad recorded a thrilling 5-3 win over Girona.
Highlighted Player (David Silva):
David Silva is a product of Valencia’s youth system. Born on 8 January, 1986, the highly rated footballer made his debut in the 2004/2005 campaign and went on to score a total of 21 goals for the Estadio de Mestalla outfit. In 2010, the Spanish midfielder signed a deal with Premier League side Manchester City and he has already won two domestic championships with the free-spending club.
In the 2015/2016 season David Silva and Co. faced Real Madrid in the Champions League semis, but the Spanish giants proved to be a big catch for the Citizens in the two-legged tie. Silva plays as an attacking midfielder, but he is capable of playing as winger or a second striker as well.
He is well known for his possession-retaining qualities and, as a result, he got the nicknames “Merlin” and “El Mago”. David Silva won the 2014 FIFA World Cup trophy with Spain, while winning Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 with La Roja as well.
Highlighted Team (Girona):
After several unsuccessful attempts, finally secured promotion to Primera Division at the end of the 2016/2017 season. The Catalan outfit finished the campaign in second place in the standings, 14 points behind Levante and only two clear of third-placed Getafe. Girona play their home games at Montilivi and the capacity of the venue is 9.286.
Speaking of the club history, Girona were founded in the café Norat in La Rambla of Girona on July 23, 1930 and they played their first official game against Colonia Artigas. A number of Spanish coaches were in charge of the team in the past, but it has to be noted that Uruguayan tactician Dagoberto Moll (1965/1966) and Karoly Plattko (1948/1949) of Hungary were in charge of the club as well.
The Catalan team wear white shirts with red stripes when playing at home, while the colour of their shorts is blue. The team’s away kits are blue and black and Sporting Gijon are considered one of Girona’s fiercest rivals.
