Our prediction for this Europa League match:
Ibrox Stadium will be the centre of attention when Rangers and Real Betis go head to head in the Europa League group stages round 1. The Gers experienced all sorts of problems at the back in the Champions League double-header with PSV, but they are surely capable of matching los Beticos in front of home fans. Summer signing Danilo suffered an injury in a 2-0 win over St Johnstone at the weekend, with Abdallah Sima likely to replace him in the starting XI. All Todd Cantwell, Kieran Dowell, and Steven Davis remain in the recovery room.
The Andalusians, on the other hand, failed to spoil Barcelona’s party at Estadio Olimpico (0-5) on Saturday evening and given their difficulties on the road, we do not believe that Manuel Pellegrini’s troops are capable of picking up more than one point from the Europa League showdown. The likes of Youssouf Sabaly, Andres Guardado, Aitor Tuibal Garcia, Claudio Bravo, William Carvalho, and Nabil Fekir should miss out with injuries for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Willian José):
Well-travelled Brazilian international Willian Jose was born in Porto Calvo and made his first football steps at a local Clube de Regatas. It was at the age of 17 that he was snapped by Gremio Barueri where he made 26 league appearances and scored six goal in his first – and only – senior season at the club.
In 2011, Willian Jose moved to Deportivo Maldonado but his five-year stint with the Uruguay outfit was marked by no less than seven different loan spells, one of which was to La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid. Standing at 186cm tall, Willian Jose is a notable presence in the box. This powerful centre forward will use his physicality to hold up ball and bring his teammates into play.
The Brazilian international did well to make a name for himself in Spain by playing for Zaragoza and Las Palmas, respectively, before he sealed a permanent move to Real Sociedad in 2016. A member of both FIFA U-20 World Cup and South American Youth Championship winning sides with Brazil in 2011, Willian Jose has not been given a chance to prove his worth at the senior level with Selecao.
Highlighted Team (Rangers):
Glasgow Rangers are one of the two synonyms for Scottish Football. Glasgow Rangers were founded back in 1872 and they have been playing an important role in the Scottish top flight ever since. The Gers won their 54th Scottish Premier League title in the 2010/2011 season, but winning of European Cup Winners’ Cup trophy in 1972 is considered the club’s biggest success.
Glasgow Rangers defeated Dynamo Moscow in the final of the competition, with the likes of Stein and Johnston (two goals) scoring for the Scottish side. Celtic are considered the club’s biggest rivals and there have always been fireworks when the two teams meet in the Old Firm derby. The likes of Paul Gascoigne, David Weir, Stefan Klos, Chris Boyd, Ian Durrant and Kenny Miller are some of Rangers’ former notable players.
It has to be noted that the Gers welcome their rivals at Ibrox Stadium, the venue with the capacity of 50,817. Rangers’ support is largely drawn from the Protestant Unionist community.
