Our prediction for this Championship match:
Sparkles will be flying when Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland square off against each other in the opening match of the Championship round 9. The Owls made a slow start to the season, with the team still eyeing their first win of the process, but their poor defensive display in a 3-0 loss to Swansea City is not giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of Friday’s clash. Both Mohamed Diaby and Mallik Wilks are sidelined with injuries, but they should be the only absentees in the home team.
The Black Cats, on the other hand, failed to extend their winning run to four games at the weekend, with the team losing to Cardiff City in front of home fans. Sunderland, though, are more of a team than Sheffield Wednesday and we predict that the visitors are going to pick up all three points from the match. All Bradley Dack, Dennis Cirkin, Pierre Ekwah, Jay Matete, Aji Alese, Corry Evans, and Ross Stewart are out of contention with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Bradley Dack):
Born in Greenwich, England on December 31, 1993, Bradley Dack is a midfielder who plays for Blackburn Rovers in the Championship. Bradley Dack began his youth career at Charlton Athletic back in 2005 and five years later he moved to Corinthian. However, the English footballer started his senior career at Gillingham, making his league debut against Bradford City on August 18, 2012. 20 days later he scored his first senior goal as he found the net in Football League trophy clash against Crawley Town.
Before joining Blackburn Rovers on June 27, 2017 Bradley Dack played four games on loan for Braintree Town, scoring one goal in those league games. His main position is attacking midfielder, but he is used as both right and left midfielder as well. Dack once described himself as “free role behind two strikers”.
The Blackburn Rovers midfielder often finds the net and it has to be noted that he scored 16 goals in 36 appearances for the Riversiders in the 2017/2018 League One campaign.
Highlighted Team (Sheffield Wednesday):
Sheffield Wednesday are one of the two famous clubs from the city of Sheffield (South Yorkshire). The Owls compete in the English second tier (Championship) and they play their home matches at Hillsborough.
The venue was the scene of the Hillsborough disaster which occurred in 1989 when 96 Liverpool supporters were crushed to death in the FA Cup semi-final. It has to be noted that the World Cup (1966) and the Euro (1996) matches were played at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday have won four First Division trophies (1902/2903, 1903/1904, 1928/1929, 1929/2930) and they finished the 1960/1961 campaign in second place in the standings. The Owls have clinched three FA Cup trophies (1896, 1907, 1935), with the team winning the League Cup in 1991.
Sheffield Wednesday defeated English giants Manchester United (1-0) in the title game. Sheffield United are regarded as the Owls’ main rivals and the two teams face each other in the Steel City derby.
