Our prediction for this Championship match:
Saturday’s football game at Ewood Park pits together Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City, the two teams who sit in the opposite halves of the table. The Riversiders desperately needed a win against Queens Park Rangers and they managed to get one in style (4-0), with the team putting an end to their four-match losing run in the Championship. Samuel Szmodics is a major doubt, while all Adam Wharton, Aynsley Pears, Harry Leonard, Ryan Hedges, and Sam Gallagher remain in the recovery room.
The Bluebirds, on the other hand, were having their ups and downs before the international break, with the team beating Rotherham 2-0 at home, losing to Middlesbrough, while sharing the spoils with Watford. The South Wales outfit are not regarded as good travellers and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Blackburn’s party at Ewood Park. All Kion Etete, Yakou Meite, Aaron Ramsey, and Callum O’Dowda miss out with injuries for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Callum Robinson):
Born in Northampton, Callum Robinson started his career at Aston Villa. Having gone through the youth ranks with the Villans, Robinson was given his first-team debut in 2013. As a product of the Aston Villa academy, Robinson unfortunately never got a chance to prove his worth at the club and ended up playing no less than 4 league appearances during his three-year stay at Villa Park.
Various loan spells – at Preston North End on two occasions and Bristol City – brought mixed fortunes for the striker up until 2016 when he sealed a permanent move with the Lillywhites. Robinson represented England at U16, U17, U19 and U20 levels but raised plenty of eyebrows when he declared for the Republic of Ireland in March 2018 through his late grandmother who was from Monaghan.
The striker made his senior team breakthrough in Republic of Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Celtic in Scott Brown’s testimonial match and will be hoping to prove doubters wrong and prove his motive is bigger than career opportunism.
Highlighted Team (Blackburn Rovers):
Blackburn Rovers have been trying to return to the Premier League ever since they dropped to the Championship in 2012. The Riversiders compete in the English second tier and they play their home games at Ewood Park. Blackburn were founded back in 1875 and they are one of the founding members of the Football League (1888).
Burnley are considered Blackburn’s main rivals and the two teams square off against each other in the East Lancashire derby. It has to be noted that Blackburn Burnley 7-1 in their first ever meeting in the East Lancashire Derby on 3 November, 1888. The Riversiders have won three First Division (Premier League) trophies (1911/1912, 1913/1914, 1994/1995).
Blackburn Rovers have clinched six FA Cup titles as well. Speaking of the club’s European success, the Riversiders won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2007. The colour of Blackburn’s home kit is blue and white.
