Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Mansfield Town will be looking to extend their winning run to four games when they take on Gillingham in the League Two round 45. The Yellows secured automatic promotion thanks to a 2-1 win over Accrington and they are now on a quest to put icing on the cake. As Mansfield are eager to clinch second place in the standings, Nigel Clough is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that defeated the Accy Stanley. Experienced midfielder Ollie Clarke, though, should be recalled to the starting XI after coming as a substitute in the midweek triumph.
Meanwhile, the Gills desperately needed a win against Barrow and they managed to get one in style (3-0). Gillingham are eager to keep their playoffs hopes alive, but given Mansfield’s excellent form in the English fourth tier, home win should be considered. Both Lapslie and Walker are major doubts as the duo limped off with injuries in the last league match.
Highlighted Player (Lucas Akins):
After making his first football steps in Huddersfield Town youth academy, Lucas Akins made his first-team debut against Northampton Town as he came as a substitute to replace Luke Beckett. However, he made no more than five appearances for Huddersfield Town as he was sent on loan to Nortwich Victoria.
After spending two seasons at Hamilton Academical, the winger, who was born on 25 February 1989, joined Tranmere Rovers in July, 2010. Lucas Atkins scored 7 goals in 77 appearances for the club and in 2012 he signed a contract with Stevenage. The English footballer played 77 league games for the Boro and he scored 13 goals for the club.
During the 2013/2014 campaign he was on Burton Albion’s radar and at the end of the season he joined the Pirelli Stadium outfit. Lucas Atkins enjoys playing football, but dancing is considered his passion as well. His main position is right wing, but he plays as both centre forward and left winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Gillingham):
Founded back in 1893, Gillingham FC are an English club that compete in the League One. The Gills are well known for their blue shirts with black stripes, but they wear white shirts with a little yellow and blue, and yellow shirts when playing on the travels.
Priestfield Stadium is the club’s home ground, with the venue holding up to 11,582 spectators. Gillingham City have been playing at the stadium since the club’s foundation. Speaking of the club’s main rivals, over the years the Gills have built up a rivalry to Swindon Town. However, it has to be noted that Swindon fans do not consider Gillingham their biggest rivals.
Former goalkeeper Roy Hillyard is the Gillingham City player with the most appearances. The English shot-stopper played for Gillingham City from 1974 to 1991, making 655 appearances for the club. Brian Yeo is the team’s all-time top scorer, netting 149 goals in 387 appearances for the club from 1963 to 1975.
