Our prediction for this Africa Cup of Nations 2024 match:
There will be fireworks when Egypt and Ghana take on each other at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in the Group B derby. The Pharaohs were on the verge of suffering a shocking loss to Mozambique in their opener, but Mohamed Salah’s late goal from the penalty spot eventually helped the team save one point. The title contenders are eager to record their first win of the process and we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at the Black Stars. Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush is pushing for a start, while Al Ahly defender Mohamed Abdelmonem is one yellow card away from suspension.
The Ghanaians, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, which is probably the main reason why we are going to place our bets on Mo Salah and Co. Veteran Andre Ayew is pushing for a recall to the starting XI as well as Athletic Bilbao ace Inaki Williams, while all Djiku, Baba, and Paintsil should be cautious after the trio picked up a yellow card in the opener.
Highlighted Player (Mohamed Salah):
Mohamed Salah is considered one of the best African players. Salah began his senior career at El Mokawloon, scoring 11 goals in 41 league appearances for the club and in 2012 he moved to Europe, signing a four-year deal with Swiss side Basel.
The pacey winger, who is capable of playing as a striker as well was producing outstanding displays for the RotBlau from 2012 to 2014 and, as a result, Chelsea chiefs decided to sign him on 26 January, 2015 for a fee of £11 million. Mohamed Salah, though, failed to impress in the Premier league and one year later he was sent on loan to Fiorentina.
After making 16 league appearances for the Viola in the Serie A, the left-footed winger signed a loan deal with Roma on 6 August, 2015. The Romans made the contract permanent on 3 August, 2016. Speaking of his international career, Salah made his Egypt debut on 3 September, 2011 in a 2-1 loss to Sierra Leone. It has to be noted that he was named Roma’s player of the season (2015/2016).
Highlighted Team (Ghana):
Ghana are an African football team administered by Ghana Football Association. The Black Stars made their first ever appearances at the World Cup finals in 2006 and they were grouped with the likes of Italy, Czech Republic and United States. Ghana booked their place in the last 16, but they were outclassed by Brazil in the knockout stages of the showpiece tournament.
In 2010 the Ghanaians did remarkably well to make it to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup and it has to be noted that they were more than unfortunate not to eliminate Uruguay in the knockout stages of the tournament in South Africa.
The likes of Asamoah Gyan, Richard Kingson, John Paintsil, Emmanuel Agymang-Badu, Sulley Muntari, John Mensah, Andre Ayew, Kwadwo Asamoah, Harrison Afful and Abedi Pele are Ghana’s most capped players, but, no doubt, Michael Essien is the most famous footballer who played for the Black Stars. The Ghanaians play their home games in white shirts, while the colour of the team’s away kit is red.
