Our prediction for this Africa Cup of Nations 2024 match:
Kouekong Stadium will host Monday’s AFCON game between Guinea and Gambia, who meet for the first time at the showpiece tournament. Guinea booked their place in the last 16 despite suffering a 2-1 loss to Zimbabwe, but the National Elephants will have to improve their game if they are to make it to the quarter-finals. Morgan Guilavogui has recovered from coronavirus, while a man to watch in the home team will be Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, who scored a consolation goal in the loss to Zimbabwe.
The Scorpions, on the other hand, sneaked in the Africa Cup of Nations playoffs thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tunisia. The AFCON debutants are likely to rely on their rock-solid defence in Monday’s clash, but preventing Guinea attackers from scoring is easier said than done. Noah Sonko-Sundberg has overcome his injury, and he should keep his place in the starting XI.
Highlighted Player (François Kamano):
Guinea international Francis Kamano is a flamboyant attacking midfielder who plays for the Ligue 1 side Bordeaux. Best fitted hugging the touchline on the left side of the pitch, Kamano is a versatile asset who covers a wide area and takes part in both defensive and attacking duties.
Francois Kamano likes to cut inside and break opposition lines with one-twos and short passes. Kamano started his career at Bastia in 2014 and moved to Bordeaux two years later. A Guinea international since 2015, Francois Kamano is a technically astute player who enjoys taking on players and dribbling his way through opposition.
Still a young footballer, Kamano has emerged as one of the key players for Bordeaux. He hit the ground running in the 2018/19 campaign and hopes to maintain it throughout the season to possibly secure a big-club move at the end of the term.
