Our prediction for this Africa Cup of Nations 2024 match:
Following a 1-1 draw with Cameroon, Guinea will look to record their first win at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations when they face Gambia in Yamoussoukro. The Syli Nationale produced a fine display in their opener, but it seems as if Francois Kamano’s first-half sending-off spoiled their party at Charles Konan Banny Stadium. Kamano is banned for Friday’s clash, while defender Mouctar Diakhaby is one yellow card away from suspension.
The Scorpions, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-0 loss to Senegal and given Ebou Adams’ suspension, we believe that punters from all four corners of the world can find value in betting on the home side. In their last meeting in a competitive match Gambia defeated Guinea 1-0 thanks to Musa Barrow’s goal, meaning that the nominal hosts are hungry for revenge.
Highlighted Player (Omar Colley):
Omar Colley is a football player from Gambia who plays for Sampdoria as a defender. Colley is a product of Wallidan’s youth school and he made 15 appearances for the first team as well. In 2012 he joined Real de Banjul and it has to be noted that he scored one goal in 17 league games for the club.
At the end of the season (2013) he decided to move to Finland, signing a deal with KuPS. Despite trialing with several 2. Bundesliga sides, he joined Djurgardens of Sweden in August, 2014. After making 44 league appearances for the Swedish outfit, he moved to Genk in the summer of 2016.
Omar Colley represented Gambia at the 2009 African U17 Championship and he certainly helped his national team win the tournament. The defender who was born in Banjul on 24 October, 1992, made his debut for the first team in 2012. Omar Colley has a contract with Genk which expires on 30 June, 2019.
Highlighted Team (Guinea):
Nicknamed the National Elephants, Guinea national team are affiliated to the Guinea Football Federation. Guinea qualified for their 12th Africa Cup of Nations and they will face the likes of Nigeria, Madagascar and Burundi in the group stages of the tournament in Egypt.
The National Elephants have yet to win the Africa Cup of Nations, but they were on the verge of going all the way at the tournament in Ethiopia back in 1976. Guinea finished the final round in second place in the standings, only one point behind champions Morocco.
The National Elephants wear red socks, yellow shorts and green socks when welcoming their rivals, whilst their away colours are yellow and red. Guinea suffered a 2-1 loss to Togo in their first international game (May, 1962). The African side recorded their biggest win against Mauritania (14-0) on May, 1972), whilst a 6-0 loss to Zaire (July, 1972) is considered the biggest defeat in the history of the national team.
