Our prediction for this Africa Cup of Nations 2024 match:
General Lansana Conte Stadium will host Thursday’s AFCON qualifier between Guinea and Malawi, the two teams who are vying for second place in Group D. Malawi kicked off their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-1 win over Ethiopia, but they face a difficult task in their second group game. A man to watch in the away team will be Orlando Pirates forward Gabadinho Mhango, who scored a brace from the penalty spot against the Ethiopians.
As for the hosts, they were on the verge of holding Egypt to a goalless draw in Cairo, but substitute Mostafa Mohamed eventually scored a late winner for the Pharaohs. Guinea are desperate to grab something from Thursday’s qualifier, but given Malawi’s display against Wubetu Abate’s troops, we believe that punters from all around the globe can find value in betting on draw.
Highlighted Player (Ibrahima Camara):
Born in Conakry, Guinea, on January 25, 1999, Ibrahima Camara is a midfielder who plays for Moreirense in Portuguese Primeira Liga. Ibrahima Camara is a product of Universal Soccer Academy, but in 2016 he was spotted by Braga scouts.
After joining the Braga youth team, he started playing for the reserve team in the 2018/2019 season. The Guinea international scored three goals in 17 appearances for Braga 2 before moving to Moreirense in 2019. Speaking of his international career, Camara made his debut for the Guinea national football team in a 3-2 defeat to Chile on October 13, 2019. It has to be noted that he found the net for Guinea on his debut. Ibrahima wears the number 7 shirt at Moreirense, and his preferred foot is right. His main position is central midfield.
Highlighted Team (Guinea):
Nicknamed the National Elephants, Guinea national team are affiliated to the Guinea Football Federation. Guinea qualified for their 12th Africa Cup of Nations and they will face the likes of Nigeria, Madagascar and Burundi in the group stages of the tournament in Egypt.
The National Elephants have yet to win the Africa Cup of Nations, but they were on the verge of going all the way at the tournament in Ethiopia back in 1976. Guinea finished the final round in second place in the standings, only one point behind champions Morocco.
The National Elephants wear red socks, yellow shorts and green socks when welcoming their rivals, whilst their away colours are yellow and red. Guinea suffered a 2-1 loss to Togo in their first international game (May, 1962). The African side recorded their biggest win against Mauritania (14-0) on May, 1972), whilst a 6-0 loss to Zaire (July, 1972) is considered the biggest defeat in the history of the national team.
