Our prediction for this Belgium Pro League match:
All eyes will be on Bosuilstadion when Antwerp and Gent square off against each other in a postponed Jupiler League game. Antwerp played out a goalless draw with newcomers RWDM at the weekend, but it has to be noted that Vincent Janssen failed to convert two penalties in Saturday’s clash. Soumalia Coulibaly limped off with injury against RWDM, with Zeno Van Den Bosch likely to step up. All Corbanie, Engels, Verhulst, and Vines are out of contention with injuries.
Gent, on the other hand, are eager to retain top position in the standings. The league leaders came from behind to beat Eupen in their last league match, but defeating the title holders at Bosuilstadion is easier said than done. Taking everything into account, the share of spoils is on the horizon. Talented forward Gift Orban is banned for the visiting side.
Highlighted Player (Sven Kums):
Belgian defender Sven Kums began his youth career at Dilbeek Sport and in 1996 he joined Anderlecht. Despite spending seven years at the club, he did not see any game action with the Belgian giants at senior level. After ending his loan spells with the likes of Lierse and Kortrijk, he signed a permanent deal with de Kerels in 2008.
The 176-cm-tall midfielder, who was born on 26 February, 1988, scored 12 goals in 116 league appearances for Kortrijk and in 2011 he moved to Netherlands, signing a contract with Heerenveen. In 2013 he returned to Belgium, joining Zulte Waregem.
In the summer of 2014 he moved to fellow Belgian outfit Gent and at the end of the 2015/2016 season he signed a loan deal with Udinese. Kums has 12 caps for Belgium U21 and it has to be noted that his father Ludo Kums is working as a coach at Anderlecht. Sven Kums is a centre midfielder, but he plays as both attacking midfielder and defensive midfielder as well.
Highlighted Team (Antwerp):
Founded back in 1880, Antwerp is one of the oldest clubs in Belgium. The Great Old welcome their rivals at Bosuilstadion, the venue with the capacity of 16,144 people. Antwerp are well known for their red home kits, with the team wearing white shirts and white jerseys when playing on the travels.
Over the years Antwerp have been trying to close the gap between Belgian giants Anderlecht and Club Brugge, but they have yet to win the title in the recent history. The Great Old clinched their first domestic trophy back in 1929, with the team repeating the success two years later. The third and the fourth titles came in 1944 and 1957 respectively.
Beerschot A.C. are considered the club’s fiercest rivals, but they have a rivalry with Club Brugge as well. The club chiefs had a long-term partnership with famous English club Manchester United in the past, with Antwerp taking young footballers on loan to Old Trafford.
