Our prediction for this Bundesliga match:
Koln will be aiming to avoid automatic relegation when they welcome Schalke at their RheinEnergieStadion on Matchday 34. The Billy Goats have been struggling in the second half of the season, and, as a result, their Bundesliga status is in great danger ahead of the last round. Anyhow, Koln are seen as hot favourites to beat the rock-bottom side, and we predict that they will pick up vital three points from the match.
Both Ellyes Skhiri and Ismail Jakobs are banned for the match, while all Schmitz, Rexhbecaj, Hector, and Dennis are sidelined with injuries. Die Knappen, on the other hand, have been producing fine displays in the season finale despite failing to secure the Bundesliga survival. Schalke, though, have been awful on the travels this term, and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Koln’s party at RheinEnergieStadion. The good news for the visitors is that Sead Kolasinac returns from suspension.
Highlighted Player (Frederik Sorensen):
Frederik Sorensen is a Danish footballer who plays for Bundesliga side Koln as a defender. He plays as a centre back, but he is capable of playing as a right back as well. Sorensen was born in Copenhagen on 14 April, 1992 and he played for the likes of Roskilde KFUM, Himmelev-Veddelev, FC Roskilde and Lyngby during his youth career.
The 194-cm-tall defender was spotted by Juventus scouts in 2010 and on 27 August he officially signed a contract with the “Old Lady”. Nonetheless, Sorensen made no more than 17 league appearances for Juve between 2010 and 2012. On 17 January, 2012 he joined Bologna for a fee of € 2.5 million and he made 42 league appearances for the Rossoblu, scoring two goals for the club.
After ending his loan spell with Verona in 2015, he signed a deal with Koln for €1.6 million and he has been playing for the Bundesliga outfit ever since. Frederik Sorensen has 15 caps for Denmark U21 team and he played for the U20 and the U17 team as well.
Highlighted Team (Schalke):
Schalke 04 are a professional football club founded in 1904. Die Knappen (The Miners) compete in German Bundesliga and they have won seven domestic titles. Schalke have clinched five German Cup trophies as well, while lifting the UEFA Cup title in 1997. The German club defeated Italian side Inter on penalties in the title game and that was the last time the final of the competition was played in a two-legged format.
Schalke 04 play their home matches at Veltins-Arena, the stadium that has been the home of the team since 2001. The capacity of Veltins-Arena is 62,271. It is well known that Borussia Dortmund are Schalke’s main rivals and the Ruhy neighbours face each other in the Revierderby.
The likes of Klaus Fichtel (477), Norbert Nigbur (355), Rolf Russmann (304), Klaus Fischer (295), Olaf Thon (295) and Herbert Lutkebohmert (286) are the players with most appearances for die Knappen. The colour of Schalke’s home kit is blue.
