Our prediction for this Championship match:
Barnsley and Derby County go head to head at Oakwell on Wednesday evening in what is expected to be a very exciting Championship clash. The Tykes are eyeing their seventh consecutive win in the league, and a victory over Derby will see them retain their spot in top six. Even though Liam Kitching and Ben Williams remain sidelined with injuries, home win should be considered as the Rams are on a three-game winless run in the Championship.
Derby County suffered a dip in form, with the team failing to find the net in back-to-back losses to Cardiff City (0-4) and Coventry (0-1). Wayne Rooney’s troops dropped to the danger zone, and given the importance of the midweek clash for the promotion-chasing hosts, we predict that the visitors are goign to return to Derbyshire empty-handed. Tom Lawrence, Curtis Davies, David Marshall, and Krystian Bielik are all out of contention through injuries.
Highlighted Player (Patrick Schmidt):
Patrick Schmidt is an Austria international who plays for Championship club Barnsley as a forward. Born in Eisenstadt, Austria on July 22, 1998 Schmidt began his senior career at Admira Wacker. After making 46 appearances for Admira Wacker II, the 179-cm tall striker started playing for the first-team in the 2016/2017 Austrian Bundesliga season.
Three years later Patrick Schmidt decided to take a step forward in his football career as he signed a four-year deal with Barnsley. The full-of-pace forward scored eight goals in the 2018/2019 season for Admira and he is widely expected to shine with the Tykes in the 2019/2020 Championship campaign. It has to be noted that Schmidt played for Austria U16, U17, U18 and U19 teams.
The Barnsley attacker currently represents Austria U21 team in international matches. His main position is centre-forward, but he is used as both left and right winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Derby):
Derby County is one of the 12 founder members of the Football League. However, nowadays the Rams compete in the Championship and they play their home matches at Pride Park Stadium. Derby County have won the two trophies in the English top flight (1971/1972, 1974/1975), with the team lifting the FA Cup trophy just after the World War II (1946).
Derby’s main rivals are Nottingham Forest, Leicester City and Leeds United, but the rivalry between Forest and Derby is regarded as the biggest one.
The two teams take on each other in the East Midlands derby. The colour of Derby’s shirts is white, whilst their shorts are black. It has to be noted that the club was founded in 1884 by William Morley. The Rams competed in the European competitions four times, but they did not record a notable result in the European Cups. The club’s chairman is Mel Morris.
