Our prediction for this Championship match:
Coventry City will try to recover from a 2-1 loss to Blackpool when they take on Blackburn Rovers in the Championship round 19. The Sky Blues have a chance to escape the relegation zone, but they will have a big fish to fry in Tuesday’s clash. Both Michael Rose and Viktor Gyokeres are pushing for a recall to the starting line-up after recovering from illness, while Fankaty Dabo remains in the recovery room.
The Riversiders, on the other hand, are eyeing their fifth consecutive league win. Blackburn produced a fine display in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Hull City, and seeing that Coventry struggled at the back on Matchday 19, away triumph should be considered. The midweek clash comes too early for midfielder Ryan Hedges, while Jan Dahl Tomasson is unlikely to make changes to the team that suffered the loss to the Tigers at the weekend.
Highlighted Player (Simon Moore):
Simon Moore is an English goalkeeper who plays for Sheffield United in the Championship. Moore began his career at Brading Town and, after playing 49 games in the league for the club, he moved to Farnborough in 2008. However, due to the lack of first-team football, Simon Moore left the club at the end of the season, with the 191-cm-tall shoot-stopper signing a contract with Brentford.
The English goalkeeper, who was born in Sandown on May 19, 1990, made his debut for the Bees in May, 2010 against Hartlepool United, coming as a substitute for first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. After ending his loan spell with Basingstoke Town in January 2011, he moved to Cardiff City and it has to be noted that he made 17 appearances for the Welsh outfit.
In the summer of 2016 he signed a deal with Sheffield United for a fee of around £500,000 and he did remarkably well to keep 17 clean sheets in the 2016/2017 League One campaign. The Blades finished the season in top position in the standings and, no doubt, Simon Moore’s brilliant saves helped the club secure promotion to the English second tier.
Highlighted Team (Blackburn Rovers):
Blackburn Rovers have been trying to return to the Premier League ever since they dropped to the Championship in 2012. The Riversiders compete in the English second tier and they play their home games at Ewood Park. Blackburn were founded back in 1875 and they are one of the founding members of the Football League (1888).
Burnley are considered Blackburn’s main rivals and the two teams square off against each other in the East Lancashire derby. It has to be noted that Blackburn Burnley 7-1 in their first ever meeting in the East Lancashire Derby on 3 November, 1888. The Riversiders have won three First Division (Premier League) trophies (1911/1912, 1913/1914, 1994/1995).
Blackburn Rovers have clinched six FA Cup titles as well. Speaking of the club’s European success, the Riversiders won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2007. The colour of Blackburn’s home kit is blue and white.
