Our prediction for this Championship match:
King Power Stadium will be the centre of attention when Leicester City and Plymouth face each other in an eagerly-awaited Championship game. The Foxes are determined to cement top position in the standings and the bookies see them as hot favourites to win Saturday’s clash. Midfielder Callum Doyle continues to miss out with injury, but there are no suspended players in the home team. Experienced forward Jamie Vardy should play some part this time out after he was rested in the last league match.
The Pilgrims, on the other hand, are tough to beat at home, but given their poor away record in the 2023/2024 Championship campaign, anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. Steven Schumacher has a luxury to field the best possible side against the league leaders. In their last meeting at the venue, back in 2009, Leicester defeated Plymouth 1-0.
Highlighted Player (Jamie Vardy):
Spending his early career playing no-league football, Jamie Vardy made the headlines when he joined Leicester City in a £1 million deal in 2012, but little did he know that he would go on to become a genuine Premier League star just three years later.
The experienced forward helped the Foxes gain promotion to the elite division and then score more than 20 goals as they mounted an unlikely title bid, earning worldwide acclaim as well as a place in the England squad. Vardy went on to score his first two goals for the Three Lions in March 2016 friendlies, with his back-heel goal against Germany in Berlin seeing him instantly become a fans’ favourite.
Over the years, Vardy has earned a reputation as a striker who never gives up and can be a real menace for opposition defenders, but his excellent goalscoring record and good link-up play are enough to suggest he can be described as a mix of old-style pacey forwards and modern strikers.
Highlighted Team (Plymouth):
Nicknamed the Pilgrims, Plymouth are a professional football club that host their rivals at Home Park. The stadium, which can hold up to 18,600 people, was built in 1892 and opened the following year. Plymouth footballers wear dark green jerseys and white shorts when playing in front of home fans, while light green and white are the dominant colours of their away kit.
The Pilgrims made it to the FA Cup semi-finals in the 1983-84 season, with the team advancing to the Football League Cup semis on two occasions (1964-65, 1973-74). The Pilgrims recorded their biggest win against Millwall on January 16, 1932, with the team beating the Lions 8-1, and they repeated the success in 1994 as they rolled over Hartlepool United in the Second Division.
The club suffered their heaviest defeat against Stoke City (0-9) on December 17, 1960. Fellow Devon teams Exeter City and Torquay United are seen as the club’s fiercest rivals.
