Our prediction for this Championship match:
Buoyed by a 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City will look to retain top position in the Championship standings when they take on Preston on Matchday 10. The Foxes are eyeing their fifth consecutive league win and they will surely rely on experienced striker Jamie Vardy, who found the net in the Riverside Stadium outfit. All Wilfried Gnonto, Djed Spence, Junior Firpo, and Stuart Dallas are out of contention with injuries for the home team.
The Lilywhites, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 4-0 loss to WBA and given their shaky defence, we believe that there is a big value in betting on the promotion-chasing league leaders. All Calvin Ramsay, Ched Evans, and Emil Riis Jakobsen miss out with injuries for the visiting team, while Ireland midfielder Robbie Brady is pushing for a recall to the starting XI.
Highlighted Player (Jamie Vardy):
Spending his early career playing no-league football, Jamie Vardy made the headlines when he joined Leicester City in a £1 million deal in 2012, but little did he know that he would go on to become a genuine Premier League star just three years later.
The experienced forward helped the Foxes gain promotion to the elite division and then score more than 20 goals as they mounted an unlikely title bid, earning worldwide acclaim as well as a place in the England squad. Vardy went on to score his first two goals for the Three Lions in March 2016 friendlies, with his back-heel goal against Germany in Berlin seeing him instantly become a fans’ favourite.
Over the years, Vardy has earned a reputation as a striker who never gives up and can be a real menace for opposition defenders, but his excellent goalscoring record and good link-up play are enough to suggest he can be described as a mix of old-style pacey forwards and modern strikers.
Highlighted Team (Preston):
Preston North End or Preston were founded in 1880. The Lilywhites or the Invincibles play their home games at Deepdale, the stadium that was built in 1875 and opened three years later.
In 1889 Preston won their first FA Cup trophy and they did well to beat Huddersfield Town in the final of the 1938 FA Cup final. However, the club’s biggest success came in 1889 and 1890 when they won back-to-back domestic trophies (First Division).
Preston have yet to win the League Cup title, but they were runners-up in 1888, 1922, 1937, 1954, 1964. Preston’s main rivals are Blackpool and the two teams square off against each other in the West Lancashire derby. In their first ever meeting in the West Lancashire derby (1901) Preston recorded a 4-1 win over Blackpool.
Burnley and Blackburn Rovers are considered Preston’s big rivals as well. The colour of Preston’s shirts is white and they wear dark blue shorts.
