Our prediction for this Championship match:
Leicester City and Rotherham United face each other at King Power Stadium in a David-vs-Goliath clash. The Foxes are on the right track to secure automatic promotion, but head coach Enzo Maresca must warn his men against complacency. In Jamie Vardy’s absence (injury), Patson Daka will continue leading the line for the hosts. The likes of Marc Albrighton, Yunus Akgun, Kasey McAteer, and Callum Doyle remain in the recovery room as well.
The Millers, on the other hand, extended their losing run to three games at Plymouth and given their poor away record in the 2023/2024 Championship campaign, anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. Daniel Ayala misses out through suspension, while all Fred Onyedinma, Cafu, Sam Clucas, Andre Green, Tyler Blackett, Cameron Humphreys, and Shane Ferguson are out of contention through injuries. In their last meeting in the English second tier Leicester defeated Rotherham 2-1.
Highlighted Player (Jamie Vardy):
Spending his early career playing no-league football, Jamie Vardy made the headlines when he joined Leicester City in a £1 million deal in 2012, but little did he know that he would go on to become a genuine Premier League star just three years later.
The experienced forward helped the Foxes gain promotion to the elite division and then score more than 20 goals as they mounted an unlikely title bid, earning worldwide acclaim as well as a place in the England squad. Vardy went on to score his first two goals for the Three Lions in March 2016 friendlies, with his back-heel goal against Germany in Berlin seeing him instantly become a fans’ favourite.
Over the years, Vardy has earned a reputation as a striker who never gives up and can be a real menace for opposition defenders, but his excellent goalscoring record and good link-up play are enough to suggest he can be described as a mix of old-style pacey forwards and modern strikers.
Highlighted Team (Rotherham):
Rotherham United are an English club that compete in the Championship. Rotherham United are located in Rotherham, South Yorkshire and they play their home games at New York Stadium and the capacity of the venue is 12,021.
The club was founded in 1925 as a merger between Rotherham County and Rotherham Town. The colour of Rotherham’s home kit was originally yellow and black, but nowadays they were red and white jerseys. The Millers made it to the FA Cup fifth round on two occasions (1952/1953, 1967/1968) and they have yet to play in the Premier League.
Rotherham United have won the Football League One twice (1950/1951, 1980/1981), but the club’s biggest success is participation in the 1960/1961 League Cup final. Sheffield United are regarded as Rotherham United’s fiercest rivals, but the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster could be considered Rotherham’s big rivals as well.
