Our prediction for this Championship match:
Out-of-sorts Oxford United will try to put an end to their five-game winless run when they take on Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship round 21. The Yellows have been struggling at the back of late, but you should know that they have suffered only two defeats at home this season. All Bennett, Dembele, and Sibley are out of contention with injuries, while fit-again forward Kyle Edwards is pushing for his first start since October 5, 2024 when Oxford shared the spoils with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
The Owls, on the other hand, aim to make amends for a 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers. As both Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United will go for a victory in Saturday’s encounter, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. Olaf Kobacki and Akin Famewo should be the only absentees in the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Josh Windass):
Born in Hull, England on January 9, 1994, John Windass is a professional footballer who plays for Wigan Athletic. Windass is a product of Huddersfield Town youth academy, but he did not play for the Terriers at senior level.
The 175-cm-tall midfielder began his senior career at Accrington Stanley and after scoring 22 goals in 77 appearances in the league for the club, he moved to Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2016. Two years later Josh Windass joined Wigan Athletic and he has been playing for the DW Stadium outfit ever since. He scored his first Championship goal on September 18, 2018 in a 2-1 win over Hull City.
His main position is attacking midfield, but he is used as both central midfielder and second striker as well. It has to be noted that Josh is the son of former footballer Dean Windass, who played for the likes of Hull City, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Bradford City during his professional career.
Highlighted Team (Oxford United):
Oxford United are one of the oldest clubs in the League One as they were founded back in 1893. However, Oxford United adopted their current name 67 years later and have been playing under it ever since.
Over the years the Yellows have built a great rivalry with Swindon Town and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two sides. Oxford United play home matches at Kassam Stadium, the venue with the capacity of 12,500. The stadium was built in 1997 and has been Oxford United’s home ground ever since. The Boys from Up the Hill are well known for their yellow and blue colours, but they play their away games in dark blue (with a little yellow) or black kits.
Oxford’s player with the most league appearances is John Shuker, playing 478 games for the club from 1962 to 1977. On the other hand, Jim Magilton is the club’s most capped player in internationals, playing 18 games for Northern Ireland.
