Our prediction for this Championship match:
Saturday’s highly-anticipated clash at Vicarage Road pits together Watford and Queens Park Rangers, the two teams who aim to get off to a flying start to the season. The Hornets are seen as one of the main favourites for promotion, but bear in mind that the likes of Joao Pedro, Ismaila Sarr, and William Troost-Ekong have left the club in the summer transfer window. On the other hand, new signings Jake Livermore, Rhys Healey, and Tom Ince are all expected to make their official Watford debuts against QPR.
The Hoops head into the season opener following an embarrassing 5-0 loss to Oxford United, which is probably the main reason why we are going to bet on the Hornets. A man to watch in the away side will be Scotland forward Lyndon Dykes, who scored eight goals in the Championship last term. QPR are on a three-game winning run in encounters with Watford, meaning that the hosts head into the match with a thirst for revenge.
Highlighted Player (Dan Gosling):
Dan Gosling is a midfielder who was born in Brixham, England on 1 February, 1990. He played for Brixham United and Plymouth Argyle during his youth career and he made his first-team debut for the Pilgrims against Hull City on 9 December, 2006 at the age of 16.
In 2008 he moved to Everton and it has to be noted that he scored four goals in 22 appearances for the Goodison Park outfit. Following his spell with Newcastle United, he signed a deal with Bournemouth in 2014 and he has been playing for the Cherries ever since. Dan Gosling made 34 appearances for Bournemouth in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign and scored three goals for the club in the English top flight.
Gosling has three caps for the England U21 team and he played for the U17, U18 and U19 teams in the past as well. His main position is central midfield, but he is capable of playing as defensive and right midfielder as well. Dan Gosling has a four-year deal with Bournemouth.
Highlighted Team (QPR):
Queens Park Rangers are well known as QPR. The capital club was founded in 1886 and Loftus Road Stadium is QPR’s ground. Loftus Road Stadium was opened in 1904 and the capacity of the venue 18,439. However, it has to be noted that no less than 35,353 spectators watched the game between QPR and Leeds on 27 April, 1974.
The Hoops finished the 1975/1976 First Division campaign in second position in the standings, just behind champions Liverpool. This is considered the club’s biggest success, but Queens Park Rangers made it to the FA Cup final in 1982 as well.
QPR were beaten by fellow capital club Tottenham Hotspur in the title game, but they did well to lift the League Cup trophy in 1967. Queens Park’s main rivals are Brentford, Chelsea and Fulham, but other clubs based in London are considered QPR’s rivals as well. The colour of QPR’s shirts is blue and white.
