Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Benfica and Inter go head to head at Estadio da Luz in what is expected to be a close Champions League encounter. The Eagles are having a Champions League campaign to forget, with the team losing each of their four group games, but they could still grab a spot in the Europa League knockout stages. The Portuguese champions face a must-win situation against Inter and we are positive that they will leave their hearts on the field this time out. Both Nicolas Otamendi and Angel Di Maria are back from the international duty, while all David Neres, Alexander Bah, and Orkun Kokcu continue to miss out with injuries.
The Nerazzurri, on the other hand, have already booked their place in the Champions League last 16, but they surely want to overtake Real Sociedad in top position in Group D. As Simone Inzaghi’s men will go for a win in Wednesday’s clash as well, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. Both Alessandro Bastoni and Benjamin Pavard are sidelined with injuries, while former Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado should recover in time to face the Eagles.
Highlighted Player (Hakan Calhanoglu):
Hakan Calhanoglu is another one in the long line of Turkish footballers who were born in Germany, so it is hardly surprising he came to prominence thanks to his performances in Bundesliga. The attacking midfielder with great vision and very good goalscoring record started his professional career at Karlsruher, scoring impressive 17 goals in 50 league outings to earn a move to Bundesliga side Hamburg.
The spell at Imtech Arena was merely a stepping stone for bigger things as 11 goals in his debut top flight campaign persuaded Bayer Leverkusen to splash nearly €15 million on his services. That proved a very good investment as Calhanoglu continued the rich vein of form, and it is now a matter of time before he joins one of European powerhouses.
The midfield maestro had a bright start to his career in the Turkey national team, scoring 5 goals in first 16 caps, and chances are he will become a leader for Milli Takim in the foreseeable future.
Highlighted Team (Benfica):
Member of the ‘Big Three’ clubs in Portugal alongside FC Porto and CP Sporting, Sport Lisboa e Benfica are the football club that has never been relegated from the Primeira Liga. The club is nicknamed Aguias because of the Eagle symbol atop the club’s crest. Benfica play their home games at the Estadio da Luz which replaced the original one in 2003 and which boasts the capacity of more than 64,000. Arguably the most successful club in Portugal, Benfica have won a record of 35 Primeira Liga titles and also a record 25 Taca de Liga and 7 Taca da Liga trophies.
Two-time European Cup winners, Benfica are the club known for their diligent work with youth players, many of which went on to make great careers abroad. The most prominent players to wear a Benfica shirt are legendary Eusebio, Manuel Bento, Jorge Tavares and most recently Javier Saviola, Nuno Gomes, David Luiz and Angel Di Maria.
