Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Thanks to a 2-0 win over Spartak in Moscow, Benfica moved one step closer to booking their place in the Champions League playoffs. The Eagles proved their worth in the first leg, but they can’t afford any complacency in Tuesday’s clash as miracles happen. Haris Seferovic, who suffered an injury in the first leg, is unlikely to feature in the Estadio da Luz showdown, with Goncalo Ramos likely to step up.
Gilberto, who scored as a substitute in the first leg, is pushing for a start as well. The Russians, on the other hand, will have a mountain to climb in Tuesday’s game, and given their shaky defence, we believe that punters from all around the globe can find value in betting on the home team. In their last meeting at Estadio da Luz Benfica defeated Spartak 2-0. Pacey winger Quincy Promes remains on the sidelines with injury for the visitors.
Highlighted Player (Haris Seferovic):
Haris Seferovic is a Swiss international who plays for Primeira Liga club Benfica as a forward. Born in Sursee, Switzerland, on February 22, 1992, Seferovic began his youth career at his hometown club Sursee. In 2004 he moved to Luzern, and he continued his football development at Grasshoppers from 2007 to 2009.
The 189-cm-tall attacker, whose preferred foot is left, made three appearances for the Grasshopper senior team before joining Fiorentina in 2010. Haris Seferovic played for the likes of Xamax, Lecce, and Novara on loan as well before signing a deal with Real Sociedad in the 2013/2014 season.
In the summer of 2014, the Swiss international moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 16 goals in 86 appearances in the German top flight. Seferovic, who plays for Benfica nowadays, did well to win the Primeira Liga trophy with the Eagles in the 2018/2019 season. His main position is centre-forward, but he is used as a left winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Spartak Moscow):
Spartak Moscow are the most successful club in Russia. The Narodnaya komanda did well to win the Soviet championship on 12 occasions and they won their tenth Russian Premier League title in the 2016/2017 season.
Speaking of the club’s European success, Spartak Moscow made it to the European Cup (Champions League) semis in the 1990/1991 season, but Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille proved to be a big catch for the Russian champions. Spartak were beaten by OM 3-1 in Moscow, while suffering a 2-1 loss to the French side in the return leg at Stade Velodrome.
The club was founded in 1922 and they are considered as “the people’s team”. Spartak Moscow welcome their rivals at Otkrytie Arena, the stadium which was opened in September 2014. The venue will be called Spartak Stadium during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The club’s main rivals are Dynamo Moscow and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two capital clubs.
