Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Club Brugge will be looking to defend their two-goal lead in the Champions League playoff tie with Rangers as the two teams face each other at Jan Breydel Stadion on Wednesday. The Belgian vice-champions proved their worth in the first leg, beating Rangers 3-1 in Glasgow. As a result, Nicky Hayen’s men are with one foot in the group stages of the elite competition. Romeo Vermant suffered a muscle injury in the first leg, with Nicolo Tresoldi likely to step up.
The Gers, on the other hand, will have a mountain to climb in the second leg as they need a big win to advance to the Champions League group stages. Club Brugge seem to be more of a team than Rangers and given the Gers’ shaky defence, home win should be considered. Former Crvena Zvezda centre-back Nacer Djiga is back from the Premiership ban, while both Cyril Dessers and Dujon Sterling are expected to miss out with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Hans Vanaken):
Hans Vanaken is a Belgian footballer who was born in Neerpelt on August 24, 1992. Hans Vanaken is a product of PSV football academy, joining the club at the age of 10, but in 2008 he joined Lommel United. The Belgian midfielder continued wearing the green shirt at senior level, scoring 21 goals in 80 appearances for the club in the league.
In 2013 he moved to Lokeren and after spending two seasons at Daknamstadion, he signed a deal with famous Belgian team Club Brugge. Vanaken has established himself as one of the team’s key players and he is likely to play an important role in the Jan Breydel Stadium outfit in the 2019/2020 Europa League season.
His main position is attacking midfielder, but he is used as both central midfielder and left midfielder as well. He has a contract with Club Brugge until June 30, 2024.
Highlighted Team (Rangers):
Glasgow Rangers are one of the two synonyms for Scottish Football. Glasgow Rangers were founded back in 1872 and they have been playing an important role in the Scottish top flight ever since. The Gers won their 54th Scottish Premier League title in the 2010/2011 season, but winning of European Cup Winners’ Cup trophy in 1972 is considered the club’s biggest success.
Glasgow Rangers defeated Dynamo Moscow in the final of the competition, with the likes of Stein and Johnston (two goals) scoring for the Scottish side. Celtic are considered the club’s biggest rivals and there have always been fireworks when the two teams meet in the Old Firm derby. The likes of Paul Gascoigne, David Weir, Stefan Klos, Chris Boyd, Ian Durrant and Kenny Miller are some of Rangers’ former notable players.
It has to be noted that the Gers welcome their rivals at Ibrox Stadium, the venue with the capacity of 50,817. Rangers’ support is largely drawn from the Protestant Unionist community.
