Crvena zvezda will be looking to overcome a one-goal deficit in the tie against Kairat when the two teams face each other at Stadion Rajko Mitic on Wednesday evening. Kairat were not a better side in the first leg, but thanks to Macky Bagnack’s goal, they eventually won the match. The Kazakhstan champions face an uphill task in the return leg, and seeing that Zvezda are a real force to be reckoned with at home, we are not tempted to put our money on the underdogs.
Montenegro international Nebojsa Kosovic is injured for the visitors, while Crvena zvezda boss Dejan Stankovic should have a full squad to choose from. Summer signing Lois Diony is widely expected to replace Milan Pavkov in the starting XI. Experienced midfielder Guelor Kanga is pushing for a start as well after coming as a substitute in the first leg.

Richmond Boakye is a Ghana international who plays for Serbian champions Crvena Zvezda. Boakye was born in Agogo, Ghana on January 28, 1993 and 17 years later he started his senior career at Genoa. After scoring one goal in six appearances in the league for the Rossoblu, Boakye joined Sassuolo on loan in 2011. The Ghanaian attacker was producing fine performances with the Neroverdi in the Italian top flight and, as a result, Juventus owners decided to sign a contract with him.
However, he was immediately sent on loan to his former club Sassuolo where he scored 11 goals in 32 appearances in the 2012/2013 season. Boakye played for Elche, Atalanta and Latina before joining Serbian side Red Star Belgrade. The Ghana international quickly established himself as the team’s key attacker, helping the “crveno-beli” win the 2017/2018 season.
After making 15 appearances for Jiangsu Suning, he returned to Crvena Zvezda in the summer of 2018 as Vladan Milojevic’s men booked their place in the Champions League group stages. Boakye scored his first goal for Ghana on his debut against China.

Crvena Zvezda are the most famous club in Balkans. The Crveno-beli have 19 Yugoslav First League titles and have won eight domestic trophies since the breakup of Yugoslavia. Crvena Zvezda won their last league title in the 2015/2016 season, with the team finishing the campaign no less than 28 points clear of Partizan.
Speaking of Partizan, the Crno-beli are considered Crvena Zvezda’s bitterest rivals and the two teams meet in the “Eternal derby” (Veciti derbi). The capital club did well to win the European Cup title in 1991, with the team beating Olympique Marseile on penalties in the title game. That is considered the club’s biggest success, but it has to be noted that the Serbian club won the International Cup later in 1991. Crvena Zvezda outclassed Colo Colo of Chile (3-0) at National Stadium in Tokyo.
