Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Inter will be aiming to extend their winning run to four games in all competitions when they take on Monaco in a highly-anticipated Champions League game. The Nerazzurri are one point away from cementing their spot in top eight, but they will surely go for a win in Wednesday’s clash. As Simone Inzaghi’s men impressed in a 4-0 win over Lecce at Stadio Via del Mare, home victory should definitely be considered. Hakan Calhanoglu remains in the recovery room, while fellow midfielder Nicolo Barella returns to the starting XI.
Les Rouges et Blancs, on the other hand, did well to beat Aston Villa thanks to Wilfried Singo’s goal in round 7, but they will have a mountain to climb in Milano. As Inter have turned their Stadio Giuseppe Meazza into a real fortress, we predict that the visitors will return home empty-handed. Aforementioned Ivory Coast international Singo misses out with injury as well as Folarin Balogun and George Illenikhena.
Highlighted Player (Yann Sommer):
After making 133 league appearances for Basel between 2007 and 2014, Yann Sommer joined Borussia Monchengladbach on March, 2014. The Swiss goalkeeper signed a five-year deal with the Bundesliga outfit and he was signed to replace Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who joined Barcelona.
Sommer made 34 appearances for Borussia M’gladbach in the 2014/2015 season and it has to be noted that he managed to keep 15 clean sheets. As a result, die Fohlen finished the season in third place in the standings. The Swiss shoot-stopper, though, was not as successful in the 2015/2016 season, keeping just 5 clean sheets, while conceding 50 goals in the process.
Sommer made his Switzerland debut on 30 May, 2012 in a 1-0 loss to Romania and he represented the Rossocrociati at both 2014 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2016. The shoot-stopper made 8 appearances for Switzerland on the road to Euro 2016 and he conceded eight goals in the process. Sommer played four games for the Rossocrociati at the tournament in France, conceding two goals, while keeping two clean sheets.
Highlighted Team (Monaco):
Though based in Monaco, Les Rouges et Blances – as they are commonly referred to – play their games in the French football league system. Members of the top tier Ligue 1, Monaco play their home matches at the Stade Louis II in Fontvieille in front of 18,500 people. The Principality club boasts a turbulent history, which saw Monaco reach the highest heights of both domestic and international scene, but also get relegated to the amateur leagues at the very beginnings and to Ligue 2 in 2010-11 season.
The following year AS Monaco were acquired by the Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, whose heavy investments turned the Principality club into one of the biggest spenders in Europe in 2013 and reestablishing its place among Europe’s top clubs.
AS Monaco have had notable European results in the modern football era having been runners-up in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1992 and the UEFA Champions League in 2004. One of the most successful clubs in France AS Monaco have so far won seven league titles and five Coupe de France trophies.
