Our prediction for this Champions League match:
All eyes will be on legendary Stadio San Paolo when Napoli and Liverpool square off against each other in the Champions League Group A derby. The Neapolitans have been dealing pretty well with Lorenzo Insigne and Kalidou Koulibaly’s departures, and they must be high on confidence following a 2-1 win over Lazio at Stadio Olimpico. A man to watch in the Serie A team will be Victor Osimhen, who has netted two goals this season, but the opposition back-line should have Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at bay as well. Hirving Lozano is a major doubt after limping off with injury at the weekend, while both Demme and Zedadka remain in the treatment room.
The Reds, on the other hand, played out a slim goalless draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby. Since Jurgen Klopp’s troops have yet to find their best form in the 2022/2023 season, the share of spoils is on the horizon in Naples. Roberto Firmino is widely expected to replace Darwin Nunez in the starting XI, while Thiago faces race against clock to be fit for the match.
Highlighted Player (Lorenzo Insigne):
Born in Frattamaggiore, Naples on June 4, 1991, Lorenzo Insigne is an Italian footballer who plays for his hometown club Napoli in the Serie A. Insigne is a product of Olimpia Sant’Arpino football school, but he joined the Partenopei at the age of 15.
The diminutive attacker scored his first ever goal in the Italian top flight on September 16, 2012 in a 3-1 win over Parma. Insigne, who played for the likes of Cavese, Foggia and Pescara on loan before returning to Naples, made his debut with the Italian national team on September 11, 2012 in the World Cup qualifier against Malta.
The Napoli forward scored his first ever goal for the Azzurri in a friendly against Argentina on August 14, 2013. His main position is left winger, but he is used as a second striker as well. Lorenzo Insigne has a contract with Napoli until June 30, 2022.
Highlighted Team (Liverpool):
Founded back in 1892, Liverpool are one of England’s and world’s most famous clubs. The Reds hold a high-profile rivalry with Everton and there have always been fireworks when the two teams take on each other in the Merseyside derby.
The Reds welcome their opponents at Anfield and it has to be noted that they have already won 18 first division trophies. Liverpool were on the verge of lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, but Steven Gerrard slipped in the decider against Chelsea and left the Reds without a title.
Liverpool won one of their last Champions League trophy's in 2005, with the team coming from three goals behind to beat Milan in a historic clash in Istanbul. The Reds have clinched six European Cups and it is no surprise they are regarded as one of the greatest European clubs.
The likes of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Paul Ince, Ian Rush, Graeme Souness, Sami Hyypia and Luis Suarez are some of the most notable footballers to have represented the club over the years. The club’s anthem is You’ll Never Walk Alone and their shirt colour is red.
