Our prediction for this Champions League match:
There will be fireworks when Young Boys and Ferencvaros go head to head at Stadion Wankdorf in what is expected to be an entertaining Champions League qualifier. Young Boys set up a meeting with Ferencvaros by beating Cluj in the two-legged tie, and the bookies see them as favourites to win Wednesday’s clash as well. Keep in mind, though, that both Fabian Lustenberger and Jean-Pierre Nsame have been struggling with injuries of late.
The Hungarian champions, on the other hand, did well to shock Slavia Prague in the third qualifying round. Ferencvaros are eager to claim yet another major scalp in the qualifiers for the elite competition, but seeing that Young Boys have turned their Stadion Wankdorf into a real fortress, home win should be considered. Defender Eldar Civic is banned for the visiting team as he was sent off in the 1-0 loss to Slavia Prague.
Highlighted Player (Fabian Lustenberger):
Fabian Lustenberger is a Swiss player who was born on 2 May, 1988 in Nebikon. The defensive midfielder started his senior career at FC Luzern and he played 34 league matches for the club between 2005 and 2007. Lustenberger joined Hertha Berlin in August, 2007 and it has to be noted that he made 24 league appearances for the capital club in the 2007/2008 Bundesliga campaign.
Despite the fact that Hertha dropped to 2. Bundesliga at the end of the 2009/2010 season, the Swiss footballer decided not to leave the club in the summer transfer window. In 2013 Hertha returned to the German top flight and Lustenberger has been the team’s captain ever since.
The 180-cm-tall footballer has 25 caps for Switzerland U21 team and he made his debut for the Switzerland national team on 15 November, 2013 in a friendly against Korea Republic. His brother is a football player as well and he currently plays for the FC Luzern reserve team. Fabian Lustenberger’s contract with Hertha expires on 30 June, 2019.
Highlighted Team (Ferencvaros):
Established back in 1899, Ferencvaros are the most successful Hungarian club. The Zold Sasok clinched their 30th domestic trophy in the 2018/2019 season, but they eventually failed to book their place in the Champions League. Dinamo Zagreb proved to be a big catch for Ferencvaros in the Champions League play-offs, but the Green Eagles booked their spot in the Europa League group stages for the first time ever the same season.
Ferencvaros are well known for their green and white home kit, but they wear white shirts and white shorts when playing on the travels. Ujpest are considered the club’s fiercest rivals, whilst Ferencvaros and MTK Budapest face each other in the Eternal derby.
Honved are seen as the club’s bitter rivals as well. Back in 1975 the Zold Sasok made it to the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup, with the team losing to Ukrainian club Dynamo Kiev in the title game. Sandor Kocsis, who scored 75 goals in 68 appearances for the Hungarian national team, is the club’s most notable footballer.
