Peru
Estadio Nacional de Brasilia will host Sunday’s Copa America clash between Venezuela and Peru, the two teams who are fighting hard to book their place in the quarter-finals. Venezuela have yet to record a win at the showpiece tournament, but they showed signs of improvement in back-to-back draws with Colombia and Ecuador. In Salomon Rondon’s absence, Fernando Aristeguieta leads the line for La Vinotinto. Both Cadiz and Murillo are likely to miss the match after the duo was tested positive for coronavirus.
Peru, on the other hand, have been having their ups and downs at the Copa America. La Blanquirroja are eyeing their second win of the process, but given Venezuela’s display in the draw with Ecuador, share of spoils is on the cards in Brasilia. It has to be noted that experienced Peru defender Christian Ramos is out of contention through suspension for the away team.
Highlighted Player (Josef Martinez):
Josef Martinez started his senior career at Caracas, but he made no more than 36 league appearances for the Venezuelan outfit from 2010 to 2012. Martinez then moved to Europe and the 170-cm tall striker scored 4 goals in 34 appearances for the capital club. In the 2013/2014 season he played for fellow Swiss outfit Thun (on loan) and on June 7, 2014 he signed a contract with Serie A team Torino.
In December, 2017 Josef Martinez scored his first ever goal in the Italian top flight in a 2-2 draw with Palermo. The Venezuela international currently plays (on loan) for Atlanta United in MLS and he made his debut for Gerardo Martino’s team against New York Red Bulls. Speaking of his international career, Martinez made his Venezuela debut against El Salvador, coming from the bench after 76 minutes.
On November 10, 2016 he scored a hat-trick for La Vinotinto in a thrilling 5-0 victory over Bolivia and it has to be noted that he has four caps (two goals) for Venezuela U20 team.

Peru national team has been competing at the international stage since 1927 when they played their first ever match against Uruguay. Over the course of their history, La Blanquirroja have formed long-standing rivalries with Chile and Ecuador while 1970s brought the team a worldwide recognition during the period that is to this date considered the most successful in Peruvian football.
Teofilo Cubillas, the team’s top scorer with 26 goals to his name is considered Peru’s greatest player helped the team qualify for three World Cups and win the Copa America in 1975. Peru are the two-time champion of the tournament, who came close to lifting the Copa America trophy again in recent years, finishing third in 2011 and 2015 respectively.
La Blanquirroja are managed by Ricardo Gareca commonly referred to as the Tiger who will lead his team to 2016 Copa America Centenario looking to win Peru its first trophy at a major tournament since 1982.
