Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
Mansfield Town play host to Grimsby Town at One Call Stadium in the EFL Cup round 1. The Yellows head into the match following a 2-2 draw with Crewe in their League Two opener and they are likely to adopt yet another attack-minded approach. A man to watch in the home team will be Davis Keillor-Dunn, who scored a brace in the opening match of the season, while Scottish defender Calum MacDonald misses out through suspension.
The Black and Whites, on the other hand, kicked off the new League Two campaign with a goalless draw against AFC Wimbledon, but it has to be noted that they failed to turn their dominance into victory. Anyhow, home win should be considered as over the years Mansfield have turned their One Call Stadium into a real fortress. Both Green and Gnahoua are pushing for recalls to the starting XI, speaking of the away team.
Highlighted Player (Jordan Bowery):
Born in Nottingham, England, on July 2, 1991, Jordan Bowery is a professional footballer who plays for Mansfield Town. Bowery played for a number of English clubs, but we should mentioned the notable ones only.
The Mansfield No. 9 was a part of the likes of Aston Villa, Bradford City, Rotherham United, and Crewe Alexandra in the past. Jordan Bowery joined the Yellows in the summer of 2020, signing for the club on a free transfer. He made his Mansfield Town debut in the League two in a goalless draw with Tranmere Rovers on September 12, 2020.
Bowery scored his first goal for the Yellows in a 2-2 draw with Leyton Orient on September 19, 2020. Centre-forward is the position that suits him the most, but he is used as both left and right winger as well. His preferred foot is right. Jordan Bowery has never played for the England national team.
Highlighted Team (Grimsby):
Founded back in 1878 as Grimsby Pelham, Grimsby Town are a professional football club that compete in League Two, the English fourth tier. Grimsby Town welcome their opponents at Blundell Park, the stadium which has the capacity of 9,027 people (all seated).
The Pilgrims are well known for their black jerseys with white stripes, whilst blue is the dominant colour of their away kit. Grimsby Town made it to the FA Trophy final on two occasions (2012/13, 2015/16), but they have yet to win the title in the competition. The likes of Hull City and Scunthorpe United are regarded as the club’s main rivals.
The Pilgrims registered their biggest win on September 4, 1925, as they crushed Tranmere Rovers 8-0. Speaking of their heaviest loss, Grimsby Town were beaten by Arsenal 9-1 on January 28, 1931. Pat Glover is sitting in top position in the club’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 180 league goals on his account.
