Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Fiorentina will be aiming to get their revenge on Basaksehir for a 3-0 loss in Istanbul when the two teams face each other at Stadio Artemio Franchi on Thursday evening. The Viola proved their worth in back-to-back wins over Hearts, but they head into the match following a 4-3 loss to Inter in the Serie A. Fit-again Serbia duo Nikola Milenkovic – Luka Jovic should start against Basaksehir, while Nico Gonzalez has joined Gaetano Castrovilli and Riccardo Sottil in the recovery room.
The Turkish outfit, on the other hand, aim to recover from the Istanbul derby loss to Fenerbahce, but seeing that Fiorentina are a real force to be reckoned with at home, the visitors are unlikely to grab something from Thursday’s showdown. Both Mesut Ozil and Sener Ozbayrakli are out of contention with injuries, while there are no suspended players in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Christian Kouame):
Christian Kouame is an Ivory Coast international who has been playing for Serie A side Genoa since 2018. Kouame started his youth career at Prato and after ending his loan spells with the likes of Sassuolo and Inter, he returned to Stadio Lungobisenzio.
The 185-cm-tall forward made his professional debut with Prato on September 6, 2015 in a 2-1 loss to Pisa. Christian Kouame started the match, but he was replaced by Alberto Aladje after 66 minutes. The Genoa attacker, though, has yet to earn a call-up for the Ivory Coast national team. He has two caps for the Ivory Coast U23 team, but he is still eyeing his senior team debut.
His main position is centre-forward, but he is used as both left and right winger as well. The Genoa footballer was born in Abijan on December 6, 1997 and he has a contract with the Rossoblu until June 30, 2023.
Highlighted Team (Basaksehir):
Istanbul Basaksehir are one of the youngest clubs in Turkey. Founded in 1990, Istanbul Basaksehir play their home games at Fatih Terim Stadium, the venue that was opened in 2014. The Turkish club club have yet to win the national championship, but they did well to finish the 2016/2017 Super Lig campaign in second place in the standings.
As a result, Istanbul Basaksehir booked their place in the Champions League qualifiers and thanks to a win over Club Brugge in the two-legged tie the capital club set up a meeting with La Liga side Sevilla in the play-offs. Despite producing fine performances in the double-header against the star-studded Spanish side Istanbul Basaksehir eventually failed to make it to the Champions League group stages.
Nonetheless, the club will represent Turkey in the group stages of the Europa League in the 2017/2018 season. It has to be noted that the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Eljero Elia, Emre Belozoglu and Gael Clichy played for Istanbul Basaksehir in the 2017/2018 Champions League qualifiers.
