Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Basaksehir will be aiming to cement top position in Group A when they face RFS at NSB Arkadija in the Conference League round 3. The Turkish outfit are eyeing their third consecutive win in the process, and the bookies see them as hot favourites to pick up all three points from Thursday’s clash. Given their display in a 2-1 win at Ankaragucu, away triumph should definitely be considered.
Mahmut Tekdemir is back from a domestic ban, while fellow midfielder Mesut Ozil remains on the sidelines with a back problem. The Latvians, on the other hand, failed to impress in a 2-0 loss to Hearts, which is probably the main reason why we are going to put our money on Emre Belozoglu’s charges. To make things even worse for the home side, head coach Viktors Morozs will watch the game from the stands due to suspension.
Highlighted Player (Serdar Gürler):
Serdar Gurler is a Turkish international winger born in France, where he began his football career. Having spent six years moving through youth ranks at Sochaux, Gurler was given his competitive debut in 2010 in a league game against Saint-Etienne but eventually failed to make a mark in the boyhood club.
A year into his three-year professional contract with Sochaux, Gurler was shipped out on a season-long spell to Samsunspor. It was in his country of descent that this attacking midfielder spent the majority of his professional career – playing for the likes of Trabzonspor, Kayseri Ercizesspor, Genclerbirligi and Osmanlispor. Capable of playing at both wings and as a support striker, Serdar Gurler is a versatile midfielder who is hoping to get another chance proving his worth in Europe’s top leagues.
In the summer of 2018 he moved to newly promoted La Liga side Huesca where he will be given a better chance of making it back into the Turkey national team. Gurler went through all youth selections with Turkey and thus far only made a couple of caps for the senior side.
Highlighted Team (Basaksehir):
Istanbul Basaksehir are one of the youngest clubs in Turkey. Founded in 1990, Istanbul Basaksehir play their home games at Fatih Terim Stadium, the venue that was opened in 2014. The Turkish club club have yet to win the national championship, but they did well to finish the 2016/2017 Super Lig campaign in second place in the standings.
As a result, Istanbul Basaksehir booked their place in the Champions League qualifiers and thanks to a win over Club Brugge in the two-legged tie the capital club set up a meeting with La Liga side Sevilla in the play-offs. Despite producing fine performances in the double-header against the star-studded Spanish side Istanbul Basaksehir eventually failed to make it to the Champions League group stages.
Nonetheless, the club will represent Turkey in the group stages of the Europa League in the 2017/2018 season. It has to be noted that the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Eljero Elia, Emre Belozoglu and Gael Clichy played for Istanbul Basaksehir in the 2017/2018 Champions League qualifiers.
