Our prediction for this Europa League match:
Estadio Benito Villamarin will be the centre of attention when Real Betis and Rangers lock horns in the Europa League Group C. Following three consecutive wins, Real Betis suffered a 1-0 loss to Sparta Prague in the last group game, but they are still one foot in the group stages. As Manuel Pellegrini’s troops are one point away from booking their place in the knockout stages and they are likely to adopt a cautious approach in the decider.
Hector Bellerin is back from the domestic ban, while all Guido Fernandez, William Carvalho, Claudio Bravo, Youssouf Sabaly, and Marc Bartra remain in the recovery room. Nabil Fekir is a major doubt and he will be assessed ahead of the kick-off. The Gers, on the other hand, aim to retain second place in the standings and seeing that both sides should be happy with one point from the match, the share of spoils is on the horizon. As for the away side, Connor Goldson is back from suspension, while former Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell has overcome his injury.
Highlighted Player (Willian José):
Well-travelled Brazilian international Willian Jose was born in Porto Calvo and made his first football steps at a local Clube de Regatas. It was at the age of 17 that he was snapped by Gremio Barueri where he made 26 league appearances and scored six goal in his first – and only – senior season at the club.
In 2011, Willian Jose moved to Deportivo Maldonado but his five-year stint with the Uruguay outfit was marked by no less than seven different loan spells, one of which was to La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid. Standing at 186cm tall, Willian Jose is a notable presence in the box. This powerful centre forward will use his physicality to hold up ball and bring his teammates into play.
The Brazilian international did well to make a name for himself in Spain by playing for Zaragoza and Las Palmas, respectively, before he sealed a permanent move to Real Sociedad in 2016. A member of both FIFA U-20 World Cup and South American Youth Championship winning sides with Brazil in 2011, Willian Jose has not been given a chance to prove his worth at the senior level with Selecao.
Highlighted Team (Rangers):
Glasgow Rangers are one of the two synonyms for Scottish Football. Glasgow Rangers were founded back in 1872 and they have been playing an important role in the Scottish top flight ever since. The Gers won their 54th Scottish Premier League title in the 2010/2011 season, but winning of European Cup Winners’ Cup trophy in 1972 is considered the club’s biggest success.
Glasgow Rangers defeated Dynamo Moscow in the final of the competition, with the likes of Stein and Johnston (two goals) scoring for the Scottish side. Celtic are considered the club’s biggest rivals and there have always been fireworks when the two teams meet in the Old Firm derby. The likes of Paul Gascoigne, David Weir, Stefan Klos, Chris Boyd, Ian Durrant and Kenny Miller are some of Rangers’ former notable players.
It has to be noted that the Gers welcome their rivals at Ibrox Stadium, the venue with the capacity of 50,817. Rangers’ support is largely drawn from the Protestant Unionist community.
