Our prediction for this Europa League match:
After defeating Zenit 3-2 in St. Petersburg, Real Betis will look to seal their spot in the Europa League last 16 when they take on Zenit at Estadio Benito Villmarin. Los Beticos aim to build on back-to-back wins over Levante and Mallorca, and they are likely to stick to their attacking style of play. Nabil Fekir serves the last of his three-game ban, while all Rodri, Montoya, Miranda, and Camarasa remain in the recovery room.
The Zenitchiki, on the other hand, aim to overcome a one-goal deficit in the second leg, but seeing that los Beticos have turned their “Villamarin” into a real fortress, home win should be considered. Both Kristyuk and Lovren are likely to miss the game with injuries, speaking of the away side. Anyhow, Real Betis are closer to making it to the EL last 16 than Zenit.
Highlighted Player (Willian José):
Well-travelled Brazilian international Willian Jose was born in Porto Calvo and made his first football steps at a local Clube de Regatas. It was at the age of 17 that he was snapped by Gremio Barueri where he made 26 league appearances and scored six goal in his first – and only – senior season at the club.
In 2011, Willian Jose moved to Deportivo Maldonado but his five-year stint with the Uruguay outfit was marked by no less than seven different loan spells, one of which was to La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid. Standing at 186cm tall, Willian Jose is a notable presence in the box. This powerful centre forward will use his physicality to hold up ball and bring his teammates into play.
The Brazilian international did well to make a name for himself in Spain by playing for Zaragoza and Las Palmas, respectively, before he sealed a permanent move to Real Sociedad in 2016. A member of both FIFA U-20 World Cup and South American Youth Championship winning sides with Brazil in 2011, Willian Jose has not been given a chance to prove his worth at the senior level with Selecao.
Highlighted Team (Zenit):
Zenit Saint Petersburg are a Russian football club that was founded by workers of Leningrad Metal Plant in 1925. Over the years the Zenitchiki have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in Russian football, but they won their first domestic trophy in 1984.
Zenit have been impressive in the national championship in the 21st century, winning four league titles, while clinching two Russian Cups (2010, 2016). The Zenitchiki are a regular participant of the Champions League group stages and in 2008 they did well to win the UEFA Cup. The Russian outfit defeated Glasgow Rangers (2-0) in the title game, with Denisov and Zyryanov both finding the net in the final of the competition.
Zenit play their home games at Krestovsky Stadium, the venue that was opened in 2016. Gazprom are the club’s main sponsors and the colour of their home shirts is white-sky blue. Brazilian ace Hulk is probably the most notable footballer who played for Zenit.
