Our prediction for this FA Cup match:
A place in the FA Cup round 3 will be at stake when Oxford United and Grimsby Town square off against each other at Kassam Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Yellows have been having their ups and downs in the League One of late, with the team beating Leyton Orient, losing to Cheltenham, while sharing the spoils with Bolton. Talented midfielder Tyler Goodrham is widely expected to return to the starting XI, with Kyle Edwards dropping to the bench.
The Mariners, on the other hand, have drawn each of their last three League Two games. In their last meeting in the FA Cup, back in 2014, Oxford United defeated Grimsby Town 3-1 and seeing that David Artell’s troops are not regarded as good travellers, home win should be considered. Defender Anthony Driscoll-Glennon is unlikely to feature for the visiting side after limping off with injury in a 1-1 draw with MK Dons.
Highlighted Player (Elliott Moore):
Born in Coalville, England on March 16, 1997 Elliott Moore is an English footballer who plays for Oxford United as a centre-back. Moore has one cap with the England U18 team, while making two appearances for the England U20 team.
The 196-cm tall defender is a product of Leicester City football school, joining the club at the age of 6, but he did not enjoy a first-team football with the Foxes. He made his first appearances for Leicester City senior team on July 19, 2017 against WBA at the Asia Trophy. After spending a couple of seasons on loan at OH Leuven, Elliott Moore returned to England in the summer of 2019, signing a contract with League One side Oxford United.
Moore made his League One debut against Sunderland on August 3, 2019. The two teams played out a 1-1 draw at Stadium of Light in the opening match of the season, with Elliott Moore coming from the bench in the dying minutes of the game.
Highlighted Team (Grimsby):
Founded back in 1878 as Grimsby Pelham, Grimsby Town are a professional football club that compete in League Two, the English fourth tier. Grimsby Town welcome their opponents at Blundell Park, the stadium which has the capacity of 9,027 people (all seated).
The Pilgrims are well known for their black jerseys with white stripes, whilst blue is the dominant colour of their away kit. Grimsby Town made it to the FA Trophy final on two occasions (2012/13, 2015/16), but they have yet to win the title in the competition. The likes of Hull City and Scunthorpe United are regarded as the club’s main rivals.
The Pilgrims registered their biggest win on September 4, 1925, as they crushed Tranmere Rovers 8-0. Speaking of their heaviest loss, Grimsby Town were beaten by Arsenal 9-1 on January 28, 1931. Pat Glover is sitting in top position in the club’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 180 league goals on his account.
