Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Following a heavy 3-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, Cheltenham Town will look to return to winning ways in the League One when they face Bristol Rovers on Saturday. The Robins produce much better showings at home than on the travels, with the team eyeing their fourth consecutive win at Whaddon Road, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Forward Dan N’Lundulu is pushing for a start, while Alfie May continues to miss out with injury.
The Pirates, on the other hand, have been improving their game week by week, with the team beating both Cambridge United and MK Dons in the previous two league fixtures. Given Bristol Rovers’ fine form in October, we predict that the visitors are going to grab something from Saturday’s clash. Anthony Evans should be recalled to the Pirates’ starting XI after scoring the winner at MK Dons.
Highlighted Player (Glenn Whelan):
Probably one of the most underrated footballers in Premier League history, Glenn Whelan was born on 13 January 1982 in Dublin and he went on to enjoy a very successful career on club and international level.
Following spells with Manchester City, Bury and Sheffield Wednesday, the defensive midfielder found his peace at the Britannia Stadium, making over 250 Premier League appearances for Stoke City and keeping his place in the side under both Tony Pulis and Mark Hughes. Predominantly focused on doing the dirty defensive work and helping out the back four, Whelan never quite made the headlines for his style of play or quality of his displays, but remained an important player for both club and country.
The midfielder has so far made over 70 appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team, wearing the captain’s armband on several occasions, and starting all three group games at the Euro 2012 finals, while helping The Green Army qualify for the Euro 2016 as well.
Highlighted Team (Bristol Rovers):
Established back on August 1, 1883, Bristol Rovers are one of the oldest clubs in the League One. Bristol Rovers were formed after a meeting at the Eastville Restaurant under the name of Black Arabs after the Arabs rugby team.
This name, though, lasted no more than one season as the club was renamed Eastville Rovers in 1884. Five years later the club’s name was officially changes to Bristol Rovers. Nicknamed the Pirates, Bristol Rovers welcome their opponents at Memorial Stadium Horfield, the venue with the capacity of 12,296. Bristol Rovers are well known for their blue and white home kit, but they are dressed in yellow when playing on the travels.
Ricky Lambert, who used to play for the likes of Southampton and Liverpool in the Premier League, is regarded as one of the club’s most notable footballers. It has to be noted that Lambert scored 51 goals in 128 appearances for the Pirates in the league.
