Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Sunderland welcome Morecambe to their Stadium of Light in the League One round 21. The Black Cats aim to climb to automatic promotion places, and they are likely to go all guns blazing at the Shrimps. Sunderland played out a 1-1 draw with Oxford United in their last league match, but it has to be noted that they failed to turn their dominance into victory.
Even though all McGeady has joined the likes of Willis, Hume, Cirkin, and Huggins in the recovery room, home win should be considered as the Black Cats have turned their Stadium of Light into a real fortress. Morecambe, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 4-0 loss to MK Dons in their last league match. There are no fresh injury worries in the away team, but we are still tempted to put our money on Sunderland, who are a real force to be reckoned with at home.
Highlighted Player (Will Grigg):
Wighan Athletic striker Will Grigg became a viral sensation during the European Championship in France but the chances are any avid football fan will have been well aware of his goalscoring exploits even before 2016. The 27-year-old forward began his career at Stratford Town but it was in Walsall that the world took notice of his presence after 27 goals in 99 performances for the club.
He first came to prominence during the 2012/13 season when he was voted the club’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season, but a loan spell at Milton Keynes Dons during his rather unfortunate two-year spell over at Brentford proved crucial for his career.
The total of 20 goals in 44 appearances at Stadium MK was where Wigan Athletic noticed the Northern Ireland man and moved in to sign him on a three year contract for a £1 million fee in 2015. ‘Will Grigg’s on Fire’ was the hit song of the Euro 2016 even though the Northern Ireland striker ended up not getting a chance to make a bow in the tournament.
Highlighted Team (Morecambe):
Based in Lancashire, England, Morecambe are a professional club that compete in the League 2. The Shrimps were founded in 1920, and they welcome their home rivals at Globe Arena. The venue, which was opened in August, 2010, can hold up to 6,476 people.
Morecambe wear red shirts and red shorts when playing in front of home fans, while yellow is the dominant colour of their away kit. Fellow Lancashire-based club Accrington Stanley are seen as the club’s fiercest rivals. The Shrimps have rivalries with the likes of Lancaster City, Fleetwood Town, Barrow, Kendal Town, and Southport as well.
In 1974 Morecambe won the FA Trophy as they defeated Dartford 2-1 in the title game, and 14 years later they lifted the Conference League Cup trophy. The Shrimps secured promotion into the Football League with a 2-1 win over Exeter City in the 2007 play-offs final.
