Our prediction for this League 1 match:
All eyes will be on Adams Park when Wycombe and Sunderland face each other in the League One derby on Matchday 27. The Chairboys kicked off 2022 with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Charlton, but they need to keep on raising their form if they are to secure promotion to the Championship. A man to watch in the home team will be former Stoke City attacker Sam Vokes, who scored the winner at the weekend.
The Black Cats, on the other hand, produced their best displays of the season in a 5-0 crushing of Sheffield Wednesday. Sunderland aim to overtake Rotherham in top position in the standings, and given their attacking potential, both teams to score betting option should be considered. Wycombe defenders should have Ross Stewart at bay as the Scotland international scored a hat-trick in the last league fixture.
Highlighted Player (Jason McCarthy):
Jason McCarthy is a product of the famous Southampton youth academy. McCarthy started his youth career in his hometown club back in 2002 and he made his senior debut with the Saints in the Premier League on December 26, 2014, coming as a substitute for Nathaniel Clyne in a 3-1 away victory at Crystal Palace.
After spending a couple of seasons on loan at Wycombe Wanderers and Walsall, the English defender signed a three-year deal with Barnsley in the summer of 2017 for an undisclosed fee. Jason McCarthy was struggling to secure a first-team football at the Oakwell stadium outfit and, as a result, he returned to Wycombe Wanderers on August 9, 2018, penning a three-year contract with the League One side.
His preferred foot is right, his main position centre-back, but he is used as a right-back as well. Jason McCarthy was born in Southampton on November 7, 1995.
Highlighted Team (Sunderland):
Sunderland are a professional football club that have been playing their home games at the Stadium of Light since 1997. The capacity of the stadium is 49,000, but before expansion the original ground capacity was 42,000. Red and White shirts are Sunderland’s trademark and the club’s fiercest rivals are Newcastle United. The two local rivals have been contesting in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898 and there have always been fireworks in what is one of the greatest derbies in English football. Sunderland were on the verge of dropping to the Championship in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but experienced tactician Sam Allardyce eventually helped the team avoid relegation.
The Black Cats have won six First Division trophies (now the Premier League), with the team lifting two FA Cup titles. Sunderland won their first FA Cup trophy in 1937, with the team beating Preston North End 3-1 in the title game. The club was founded in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C.
