Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Following a 2-0 loss to Harrogate, Gillingham will look to get back on course when they face Walsall on day 5 of the new League Two campaign. The Gills have already suffered three defeats in the new season, and given their difficulties in front of goal, we do not believe that home win should be considered. Captain Stuart O’Keefe has overcome his injury, while Dom Jefferies is a major doubt.
The Saddlers, on the other hand, aim to make amends for a 2-1 loss to Barrow, and given Gillingham’s slow start to the season, we predict that the visiting side will emerge triumphant in Saturday’s clash. Both Knowles and Maher are pushing for a start, with duo Daniel – Hutchinson likely to drop to the bench following their poor displays in the midweek clash. In their last meeting at the venue Walsall outclassed Gillingham 3-0.
Highlighted Player (Stuart O\'Keefe):
Stuart O’keefe is a an English footballer who started his senior career at Southend United. In August 2010 O’Keefe signed a one-year deal with Crystal Palace after impressing coach George Burley in a trial game against West Ham reserves.
The 173-cm-tall midfielder scored one goal in 36 appearances for the Eagles in the Premier League, finding the net in a 3-1 win over Sunderland on August 31, 2013. Stuart O’Keefe played for Blackpool on loan before moving to Cardiff City in the winter of 2015.
After his loan spells with Milton Keynes Dons, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle, O’Keefe moved to Gillingham at the end of the 2018/2019 season. He made his League One debut with the club on August 3, 2019 in a 1-1 draw with Doncaster Rovers. His main position is central midfield, but he is used as both defensive and attacking midfielder as well. His preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (Walsall):
Founded in 1888, Walsall are a professional club that play home matches at Bescot Stadium. The capacity of the venue is 11,300 people and it was opened in 1990. Nicknamed the Saddlers, Walsall footballers wear red shirts and white shorts when playing in front of home fans, while black is the dominant colour of their away kit.
Walsall played out a goalless draw with Aston Villa on April 9, 1888 in their first ever game, with the team recording their biggest win on March 4, 1899 against Darwen (10-0). The Saddlers suffered their biggest defeat on December 17, 1892 as they were beaten by Small Heath 12-0.
Walsall fans consider wolverhampton wanderers the club’s biggest rivals, but the Saddlers have rivalries with Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale as well as the two clubs are only 30 miles away from Walsall. Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann is one of the most notable footballers who played for the Bescot Stadium.
